Too bombastic. And why must it always be sung by wailing Whitney's or Lee-Anne's?

U2 (highly overrated)
Anything by Blink 182 and their ilk (pop/emo punk).
Most of Linkin Park.
Creed (makes me shudder just thinking about their lack of talent, and how many records they've sold considering.)
I could go on and on and on, I'm kind of a music elitist.
Granted none of these are specific songs just bands/genres I don't like.

The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins. Saying anything good about this song is somewhat akin to: "Well, the plane crashed into the Pacific Ocean, and everyone died. On the bright side, now there's a new coral reef forming on it!"

You've never heard the original, or at least the original with sound quality. Think about it... Its old, and it went from records(48s or whatever) to 8-track to tape casset to CD. Best to hear someone experianced play it live.

You mean Stairway to Heaven? Older songs on CD are usually remastered now. They're better now then they were on record. But if a band is worth their salt then their music will always sound better live.

The people that list Stairway to Heaven as THE most overrated song ever make me weep. It's such a good song. I won't comment on the lyrics themselves (marijuana does that to some people, give them a break), but as a whole the song can stand on its own. The people that list Smells Like Teen Spirit as the most overrated song ever make me wonder if they're jumping on a bandwagon. Nirvana might not have the most complex songs, but they had heart, and that counts for something.

The most overrated song is... Mrs. O'Leary's Cow. O Baterista gets nomninated for a Grammy and damn Brian Wilson has to go and release an album named Smile. There's no justice. If Neil Peart wasn't such a kind and forgiving god he'd smite Wilson where he stands.

Killer Queen. Most overrated song ever :D

I kid, I kid. Killer Queen is actually one of their best songs, imo

Bohemian Rhapsody gets blown up a lot. It's good, yeah, if any other band did it as well as Queen, it may very well be their best song, but I think there are other songs that better define Queen. Killer Queen is one of those songs. We are the Champions/We will rock you... those two (three) songs all are a bit overrated. Again, not a good sample of what a good Queen song can sound like.

But Queen aside...

Sweet Home Alabama. This song gets blown up a LOT. It's got that classic Southern Rock sound, and I love it, but it's way too popular for what it is. Singing Sweet Home Alabama in Ohio just doesn't make freaking sense. I've also heard people say that Sweet Home Alabama was Skynard's best song. ****** please...

Edit: Neil Peart is a freaking magician on drums.

but really. i heard something on the radio the other day by tim mcgraw and nelly that i believe is the most overrated song because playing one frigging time overrates it, never mind actually having the nerve to put it on the radio.
Sdaeriji
06-03-2005, 09:48
Unfortunately, it would have to be a song like "Stairway to Heaven", "Sweet Home Alabama", "Bohemian Rhapsody", or a similarly mega-famous song, simply because they're the only songs really rated highly enough to be "overrated". That said, I'd say "Stairway to Heaven" is the most overrated song, because it's held up by a lot of people as the greatest rock and roll song ever, and I don't think it's even Zep's best song.

I voted for both of them. It's not that those songs aren't good and the bands awesome...but both bands did way better songs. StH and SLTS are both overrated. They're good, but overrated.
