A modest proposal from two "older" NSers!

Eutrusca
05-03-2005, 22:12
Zooke and I are considering starting a long-running thread where anyone could come and post to ask for the advice of two older NSers. We would do our best to offer the very best advice possible. If we didn't think we could offer effective advice on a particular issue, we would search for someone to whom we could refer the poster.

We're considering doing this because we've come to care about everyone on here, and think we might be able to share some of what we've learned in the process of having lived this long.

Would you like to see a thread devoted to advice? Would you feel comfortable posting to such a thread? We welcome your comments and suggestions.

Right now, we're looking to see if an advice column would gain favorable support. It's something that we have been considering for a while with Prosophia's encouragement. Eutrusca, maybe we should start a poll?

Kind of like the "ask a" thread. It's more in response to threads about relationship and peer problems. Sometimes what comes out of a friend's mouth sounds different than it does when it comes from family.

Would any of you ever have questions or problems that you would feel more comfortable discussing with a couple of online friends rather than "real life" people?

Well, I don't often ask for advice from anyone except Gina, but it's still a good idea for a thread.

Not as old as Eutrusca (who is?) , but I have a few miles on my chasis. Like Eutrusca, I'm a parent and grandparent and have years of relationship and marriage experience.

I need some advice are you listening Eutrusca and Zooke? I'm not going to post it until one of you responds because I want your opinions, not someone else's opinion. Here some advice for Eutrusca, check your tgs.

Hi, Oksana. Actually, it would be best if you could hold off until tomorrow or Monday, unless it's really urgent. We have only just today recieved approval to do this and we need to write up a process ( how to post, etc. ) and etc.

If it's something you need immediate advice on, then go ahead amd tell us. :)

I will have to apply to college soon; in a matter of months. I have been considering college in Paris. Do you think I should go ahead and apply? Do you think it would be a good idea?

First of all, do you speak French? :) Next, does the college you are considering offer anything special or are you looking for a more international view?

I plan on majoring in fashion design. I do speak French, and I'm considering applying to American University. If I decide to go ahead and apply there, I may apply to others as well. I think as a fashion designer it is important to experience and understand couture. You can't really do that here in the US, at least not on the same level.

Have you ever been away from home for a long period of time before. I know the first few months of college was rough because I was soooo homesick.

I'm certainly no expert on the fashion industry, far from it, but there are a few things that you need to consider about any college progam:

Will finances be a problem? Living far from home will increase expenses, and I would imagine there would be extra expenses involved in attending a top fashion design school in France.

I would suppose that, all other things being equal, the better the college's reputation, the better chance you will have getting a job in fashion once you graduate.

Did we lose you? If you've never been away from home, you might want to go to a U here in the states your first year. Then you could transfer to a French U. It would certainly look good on a resume'. The first couple of semesters are usually pretty standard required courses...you don't get into the meat of your major until 5th semester.
