The Canada - US thread to end them all!

Here it is... why can't we just be friends?

Sure there are differences between our two countries, but it is said that opposites do attract. Both of our nations have a sketchy past, and failures in the present, but what connects us is the fact both governments are doing what they feel is in the best interests of our countries.

The Missile Shield has caused a great rift, but why should it? USA wants to protect its citizens, Canada wants to spend that money in healthcare. Perhaps we'll buy into it once we have more money, but our healthcare needs an overhaul, more than we need a missile defence shield. We should respect the opinions of both countries, there is no reason to attack each other.

I myself have attacked the United States verbally, in response of attacks by Americans, who were responding to attacks by Canadians, and it just continues. But, I will be the first one to stop, not as a Canadian, but as a fellow North American.

As long as Canada is the weak neighbour of the US, nothing favourable will be brought to the table for Canada.

If Canada were to become a strong independent neighbouring nation, then it would most likely become a threat to the US.

It's a lose lose situation for peace, and americans don't recognize regions or nations..... only the US.

I didn't know there was a big rift in US/Canadian relations. So you guys don't want the missile shield. Big deal. I know that alot of Canadian citizens don't like Bush, but alot of Americans don't like him either. He's a controversial guy. I really don't see any serious problem between the US and Canada.
My Theory: The lack of Hockey has us both a little on edge.
If the NHL had only played this season we would all be a little more united.

Oh please, there is no such thing as a "strong", indepedent naighboring nation" because supposedly the US is the biggest and most powerful and independent. And if it ever did happen Canada became equally as powerful, the US would spread propaganda about Canada trying to destroy us and bomb them

Not quite right - they recognize American 'interests', whatever those may be. Iraq is an 'interest' because it is oil-rich. Afghanistan was an 'interest' for a while as it provided a suitable target for a diversionary military campaign for a few months. Canada is an 'interest' because of our fresh water and other natural resources.

If you don't have anything to offer, like oil, water, or human target ranges, you're not an 'interest'. I don't know whether to laugh or cry...

The reason Canada and the US have such a rift are because Canada is going for the European socialist model, while we strive for the opposite direction. And the Canadians hate us for it.

It created the image of the US attacking in Afghanistan using first world war Gypsy Moths.

Don't be offended Bobs Own Pipe, I make typos too.

We will never forgive Canada for Celine Dion or Avril Lavigne.

NEVER FORGET.
