Ahhhh! COFFEE!

Anyone here besides me love a cup of good coffee? I can't think of many things better first thing in the morning that a really hot, really strong cup of good coffee.

I usually drink two cups shortly after I get up ( 2 cups per day is all I allow myself ). My preferred coffee is Gevalia ( which you can buy online ) fine coffees, specifically Hazelnut or Irish Creme. I don't use sugar, preferring to add a tablespoon of honey, which not only tastes better to me, but is easier for the body to process than refined sugar. I also add a teaspoon of cream.

Any thoughts on this "drink of the gods?" :)

I rarely drink coffee, and when I do it has to be decaff or my heart will flutter out of my chest. When I do, I take it black.

I always loved the smell, but couldn't stand the taste until I did a meditation retreat a few years back. My teacher always pushes people to challenge themselves. So I made a point to drink one cup every morning. After 2 weeks I found it was drinkable. But I'll take tea, cocoa, or diet coke for my am caffeine if you please. (The folks sent me a lovely package of New Mexico green chili and cinnamon cocoa for Xmas.)

I like coffee, it got me out out of a quiz, once. Seriously, no shit, we were taking a hard-ass quiz one time in 7th grade history, and the teacher suddenly ran out of coffee. So he said "Anyone who's willing to run and get me a cup of coffee gets out of the quiz." Of course, everyone raised their hands. I was the lucky one. Our tax dollars at work, ladies and gents.

I have 3-4 large coffees every morning. I remember going cold turkey and cutting out caffeine completely a few years back, and the withdrawel was pretty painful.

Pet peeve: being in a huge line of people, waiting to buy a good, old-fashioned regular coffee, and every yutz in front of you is ordering a double-triple-mocha-latte-aye-caramba-espresso-grande.

I love a cup of good, strong, black coffee. I always have a short black if I go to a cafe & I've got my own stove top espresso machine at home. I try not to drink too much though, otherwise I have too much trouble sleeping. :(

I invented a good varient on coffee the other day - Yeasty Coffee. Essentailly you put some dried yeast into your coffee and stir well. Smells really nice and tastes good too - nobody beleives me though.

Aren't those retreats fun though? I've been to several over the years. My most memorable one was about mediation skills ( "mediation," not "meditation" ). It was held at a retreat run by vegetarians and was my first exposure to the vegetarian lifestyle. They could do amazing things to fruits and veggies! :)

Interesting good or interesting bad?

Really, the more I think about it, the more I don't want to know. Because then I'll go out and buy some yeast just to put in my coffee, and I probably won't like it, and then there will be a thing of yeast sitting in my dorm room taking up space.

Let's see...my favorite coffee is a mocha...

Use a sufficient amount of white chocolate and caramel syrup, and dump one or two espresso shots in (depending upon your individual tastes) and then some steamed milk. Top with a drizzle of caramel. God, it's good.

Well, if you've ever been in a French cafe of a morning, dunking your bread in your coffee, thinking, "Hmm, if only this bread was ... I dunno, uncooked, and somehow less ... well, substantial, this would be just right", then this could be your drink. If not, then probably not.

Worth buying the yeast though, because then you get to make home-made doughnuts. And fresh, home-made doughnuts are scientifically accredited proof of the existence of a divine creator.

I somehow doubt my little dorm microwave would be up to making home-made doughnuts...though I don't doubt their validation of a divine creator. :)

I like coffee, but I really only drink it on the weekends when hubby is home, or if we are out somewhere. There is a convenience store chain around here that really has good coffee, and the price is much more reasonable than say, a Starbucks. I do find it funny though, that they call the clerks who make the coffee "baristas". I mean, all they do is refill the creamer supply and brew the coffee, in between ringing up customers' gas and selling lottery tickets.

Anywhoo, I can't drink anything too hot or too cold because it irritates my throat and makes me cough, so I have to let my coffee cool a lot before I can drink it. One of my favorite "treats" at home is to put a scoop of vanilla ice cream in my coffee. Yum! :)

We just got a free pound of Gevalia (I'm not sure if I'm spelling that right) from dh's workplace (his parent company owns Gevalia) and I am dying to try it. Will have to wait til tomorrow, though, since hubby is working today. :(
