Do you mean along the lines of Weishaupt and that bunch, Bilderbergers and Rockafellers and Rothschilds and delineation from one of the Knights orders and all that, some offshoot of RAW (he ROCKS), or do you mean something else?

I have read and currently possess all three of them. The pix are better in the first one although the pages have yellowed a bit.
Along the lines of RAW, i HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend "Coincidance". Best headf*ck from him, IMHO.
BTW, i kind of liked the Shea coauthoring but i liked MUCH better the Historical Illuminatus Chronicles (including "The Widow's Son" - #2)
And i also read "Masks of the Illuminati" although i don't remember much other than the dialogue being interesting w/Einstein though more amiable and less like i'd come to expect from other things he's said.
Of all though, for series, the Historical one rocked, and for individual books, Coincidance. Good to know a little about Joyce, though, helps.
BTW RAW is my favorite single author i've bothered to read more than three books from.
Got started on him thanks to Illuminatus reference by other freaks of nature and by the Subgenii, who are also in many respects freaks of nature. There's an excellent book entitled "Three-Fisted Tales of Bob" that i HIGHLY HIGHLY (redundant, i know) recommend.
N'joy!

I hope they don't exist in RL.
Not because of a power monopoly or anything, that doesn't bother me. But simply from a personal view in which I need to strive for more. Should the illuminati exist, they exist as so to control everything. There is nothing more to gain. So I would prefer they didn't exist, and if they did, they should quit being idiots.

We do not have the Illuminati, but we do suspect there is another group quite high up in our power positions. That group is commonly called the "Polaris", the "Alliance of the Northern Star", or just the "Alliance" (rumor has it they are based in the Confederacy of The Polaris Society). Most people scoff at that and disclaim it as a conspiracy theory, but the fact is that the Illuminati have never - and this is known - established a solid foothold within Aeruillin. The only explanation for that is that there must be some other group keeping them out.
Whatever they do, however, their motives appear benevolent and so we don't consider any action against them for now.

I believe it's the other way around. :)
The Illuminati started out as an organization devoted to the advancement of science during The Renisiance (sp), started by Galileo. They had no quarell with the Church in the beginning. But then...Things went south...
After Galileo was arrested, the group was hunted down. The surviving members fled, and fell in with other peoples persecuted by The Church, such as occultists, mystics, etc. This began the era of the vehemently anti-religious Illuminati we have today.
How did they become a world power? They infiltrated the ranks of the Freemasons, of which many world leaders of the time were members.
There you go.

my dear friend you are indeed mistaken.
What is now known as the illuminatti had its beginnings in the 18th century by a professor at the University of Ingolstadt in Bavaria named Adam Weishaupt. He believed in the abolution of both government and organized religion, so, to further his goal, he began with a group of 5 other influential men on May 1, 1776. They were known as The Order of Perfectibilists, but this was later renamed to the Order of the Illuminatti. This enterprise spred throughout Europe, snaring those in the higer echelons of power.
Professor Weishaupt joined a German strain of Freemasonry in 1777, being initiated in Munich. He immediately began to poach from the ranks of his fellow Masons to fill out his own clandestine group. This recruitment continued unabated until he was finally caught and expelled from the Freemasons. This quashes the theory that it is merely a branch of the Masons.
The Order of The Illuminatti still exists today. It includes prominant heads of state, CEOs, Intelectuals, and society's elite. The goal of abolishing church and state has remained the same, to set up a religion of reason. The Order still works in the smoke-filled board rooms, behind closed doors, always plotting.
Various reports indicate the governing council of the group is centered in monaco, but other reports place it in the Vatican, but most of the evidence points to Munich. Who is to say, but it is certain that The Order is pulling strings wherever they are.

Hmm...No...I was fairly certain it had its roots in the Renisance.
Illuminati: "The Enlightened Ones", started by Galileo during the Renisance and the Christian Persecution.
La Purga? The public execution of 4 of the top members by Church officials? Their bodies hung through the streets, causing the surviving members to flee?
No matter the origins. We both agree that the exist today, that they have infiltrated the Freemasons, and that they really don't like religion too much.
Shall we fight them? Or seek to join their ranks and take over the world?
I say...meh...I'll think about it. :p

I still hold that what we now know as the Illuminatti has it's roots in the 18th century. There is no disputing that Galileo had a group similarly named, but, his group was akin to a philosopher's club. THey discussed science. Galileo was already feeling chiuch persecution for his astronomical findings. It was independant of his little scince powow (although this propbably didn;t help his standing with the church). Besides, Galileo wasn;t hell-bent on world domination, as Weishaupt was.
I am not familiar with la purga, can you enighten me (no pun intended) as to what it was (in detail)

Wrong. Galileo founded the original one, but after LA Purga they fled Rome into what is now Germany. Weishaupt then came into the picture, but only as an organizer for a front group. They figured that they'd let people think Weishaupt was crazy and ignore it. Weishaupt was more or less a recruiter and a scapegoat.

I've read Dan Brown's Angels & Demons too, but so far I have not found that bit confirmed. Most other sources indeed speak of Adam Weishaupt as pretty much an early founder.
Of course, it may also have been that he just revived a mostly dead organization and turned it into a new direction.
Then again, the reason for Galileo being the founder of the Illuminati may have been that Dan Brown would be able to tie it all neatly into a single setting, ie Rome.
