27. How much dirt would be in a hole 6 feet deep and 6 feet wide that has been dug with a square edged shovel?

None. No matter how big a hole is, it's still a hole: the absence of dirt. (And those of you who said 36 cubic feet are wrong for another reason, too. You would have needed the length measurement too. So you don't even know how much air is in the hole.)

Same question, but the location is in Canada?

Both questions, same answer: the ball in the bucket of 45 degree F water hits the bottom of the bucket last, since the 30 degree water is frozen.

Neither. If the temperature were lower than 30 the 45 degree one would drop faster most likely as the other would be ice, but although 32 degreees F is the nominal freezing point of water actually at 30 both forms of water are liquid. really the properties of H2O are amazing, and ice can remain solid at well above 32 F (the nominal melting point). Since you specifed water (the liquid form of H2O) and water is still a liquid at 32, we cannot asssume that you are refering to ice although that is obviously your intent.

22. A man gave one son 10 cents and another son was given 15 cents. What time is it?
He gave away 25 cents in total, so he gave a quarter to two, so it's 1:45. (boom! boom!)
23. A boat has a ladder that has six rungs, each rung is one foot apart. The bottom rung is one foot from he water. The tide rises at 12 inches every 15 minutes. High tide peaks in one hour. When the tide is at it's highest, how many rungs are under water?
None, the boat goes up with the tide.
24. There is a house with four walls. Each wall faces south. There is a window in each wall. A bear walks by one of the windows. What color is the bear?
White.
25. Is half of two plus two equal to two or three?
Using BODMAS, that would be 2+(2x1/5), so 2+1 and therefore 3.
26. There is a room.! The shutters are blowing in. There is broken glass on the floor. There is water on the floor. You find Sloppy dead on the floor. Who is Sloppy? How did Sloppy die?
He's a fish, the tank broke and he suffocated.

None.
28. If I were in Hawaii and dropped a bowling ball in a bucket of water which is 45! degrees F, and dropped another ball of the same weight, mass, and size in a bucket at 30 degrees F, both of them at the same time, which ball would hit the bottom of the bucket first? Same question, but the location is in Canada?
The one in Hawaii - 30F is just below -1C, so the ball would have to break through the ice first.
29. What is the significance of the following: The year is 1978, thirty-four minutes past noon! on May 6th.
The date, using American dating methods, would be 12:34, 5/6/78
30. What is it that goes up and goes down but does not move?

Without looking at the previous post.

1. Divide 30 by a half and add ten

Dividing by a half is multiplying by two. 30*2+10 = 70.

2. What is the eleven-letter word that most people spell incorrectly?

Incorrectly. I knew that one.

3. Take two apples from five apples and what do you have?

Two, I'd say, these being the ones you've taken.

4. What can go up a chimney down but not down a chimney up?

Holy smokes, pun intended. That's a dumb test.

5. If Mr. Smith's peacock lays an egg in Mr. Jones' yard, who owns the egg?

Peacocks, just like any cocks, don't lay eggs. That's the job of the hens.

6. What do you sit on, sleep on, and brush your teeth with?

I'm stumped, sorry.

7. A 10-foot rope ladder hangs over the side of a boat with the bottom rung on the surface of the water. The rungs are one foot apart, and the tide goes up 6 inches per hour. How long will it be until 3 rungs are covered?

How many inches are there to a foot? Ask in metric, and I'll answer.

8. Who's Bigger: Mr. Bigger, Mrs. Bigger, or their baby?

All of them, no?

9. Which country has 4th July: USA, UK, Germany or Australia?

I believe we all do, though the USA are the only ones to light fireworks on that day as far as I'm aware.

10. Some months have 31 days, some have 30 days, and how many have 28 days?

One has exactly 28 days, three years out of four. All the others have at least 28 days. Which do you mean?

11. A man built a house of rectangular structure with all the walls facing
south. A bear came wandering by. What colour was it?

White, probably, as most bears on the North Pole.

12. If you were all alone in a deserted house at night and you only have one match and there was a lamp, a fire and a candle. What do you light first?

The match.

13. You're the pilot of an aeroplane that travels from New York to Chicago - a distance of 800 miles. The aeroplane travels at 200 m.p.h. and makes one stop for 30 minutes. What is the pilot's name?

His real name should remain private, but Arancaytar Ilyaran will suffice.

14. How many of each species did Moses take on board the ark?

I'm an agnostic, but I'm not a fool. Moses wasn't even born when the ark was supposedly built.

15: You are competing in a race and overtake the runner lying in second place. In which position are you now?

Assuming he was in second place before, not after, I overtook him, I'm now in second place.

16: If you overtake the last runner, what position are you now in?

I can't overtake the last runner, because to do that I'd have to be behind the last runner, which isn't possible if I'm participating in the race myself.

17: Take 1000. Add 40. Add another 1000. Add 30. 1000 again. Plus 20. Plus 1000. And plus 10. What is the total?

4100. But I admit I was about to say 5000.

18: Marie's father has five daughters: 1. Chacha 2. Cheche 3. Chichi 4. Chocho Question: What is the fifth daughter's name? Think quickly...

Marie.

19. A girl who was just learning to drive went down a one-way street in the wrong direction, but didn't break the law. How come?

She wasn't driving her car.

20. Two students are sitting on opposite sides of the same desk. There is nothing in between them but the desk. Why can't they see each other?

Either they're blind, or they're sitting back to back.

21. There are only two T's in Timothy Tuttle. True or false?

False. There are five.

22. A man gave one son 10 cents and another son was given 15 cents. What time is it?

11:51 AM, GMT+1 at the time of writing.

23. A boat has a ladder that has six rungs, each rung is one foot apart. The bottom rung is one foot from he water. The tide rises at 12 inches every 15 minutes. High tide peaks in one hour. When the tide is at it's highest, how many rungs are under water?

See above. I don't do feet and inches.

24. There is a house with four walls. Each wall faces south. There is a window in each wall. A bear walks by one of the windows. What color is the bear?

We had that question before. Either the house is rectangular again, then the bear is white, or the walls have some weird geometric shape like a drawing by M.C. Escher (or the house has more than these four walls), in which case there's no way of knowing the color of the bear.

25. Is half of two plus two equal to two or three?

Assuming you have no parantheses in the equation, it's three. Multiplication before addition.

26. There is a room.! The shutters are blowing in. There is broken glass on the floor. There is water on the floor. You find Sloppy dead on the floor. Who is Sloppy? How did Sloppy die?

Sloppy is a fish, and he asphyxiated in the air after his glass broke.

27. How much dirt would be in a hole 6 feet deep and 6 feet wide that has been dug with a square edged shovel?

There is no dirt in it anymore, since it has been removed. However, there is space for approximately 54 Pi cubed feet of dirt.

From your question I assume that "degrees F", whatever that is, has its water freezing point somewhere between those temperatures. In which case the second ball would never hit the bottom. However, since I am not familiar with that system, I cannot say for certain.

29. What is the significance of the following: The year is 1978, thirty-four minutes past noon! on May 6th.

Since you people put month before day for some inexplicable reason, those numbers are nicely consecutive. 12:34, 5/6/78.

30. What is it that goes up and goes down but does not move?

A lot of things do that. Temperature, for one.

Edit: Fixed the bold tags. No I didn't change my answers. I admit nothing!

1:45. The man gave away a total of 25 cents. He divided it between two people. Therefore, he gave a quarter to two.

Yes the man gave away 25 cents, however "a quarter" is a designation of a specific coin - not of a monetary amount. So, if you want to say that he gave "25 to two", then I would accept 1:35 as a valid answer.

But not 1:45.

Because he did not give "a quarter" as he could not have divided it in the manner he did between his sons.

mmm this question is quite cheeky. The comment about the street being one-way strongly carries the implication that she was actually walking on the part of the street governed by the one way restrictions ie. actually on the road. In which case she could be breaking all sorts of laws, obstructing a public highway jay walking etc.

Actually, no. We're saying at the north pole, the actual pole that's placed at the very tip of the earth that scientists always move an inch or two based on calculations of how the earth is tipped.

At the actual north pole- right there on that spot- you can only go south. Pretty cool. Same thing with the south poll. Right there at the tip, you can only go north. Nowhere else in the world except those two places can you say that no matter what direction you're walking in, you can only go in one direction.

I disagree with 17 The answer is 2030

Take 1000. Add 40. Add another 1000. Add 30. 1000 again. Plus 20. Plus 1000. And plus 10. What is the total?

1000 = 1000
+40 = 1040
+1000 = 2040

1000 again (not that this does not have add etc infront of it therefore we are reverting to a 1000)
+20 = 1020
+1000 = 2020
+10 = 2030 Answer.

Not bothering to repeat all the other answers, BUT:

16: If you overtake the last runner, what position are you now in? --In order to overtake the last runner you must be on a relay track. Anyone in the race can overtake the last runner as many times as they want, but you have no way of knowing what position any of them are in.--

28. If I were in Hawaii and dropped a bowling ball in a bucket of water which is 45 degrees F, and dropped another ball of the same weight, mass, and size in a bucket at 30 degrees F, both of them at the same time, which ball would hit the bottom of the bucket first? Same question, but the location is in Canada? --It doesn't matter whether you are in Canada or Hawaii, there is no water in that second bucket to slow the ball down, it will hit the bottom of the 30 degree bucket first.--
