Who here generally believes that fate controls all the decisions you make? Or do you think we have control over most of our lives?

I think I have complete control over my life --- however, I have a mother-fucker of a Dad who tries to control every aspect of it, right down to my own opinions and thoughts.

fate is there, it is a drive, but one can control it. Im not saying you can control something, because if it was meant happen, ITS GONNA HAPPEN! There are minor things that affect major things which changes your fate.

Like you being on NS tonight, is a minor one.

I think that the concept of fate is flawed, but also possibly the concept of free will. I'm not sure where I stand on the issue.

I strongly believe in fate and destiny. I do think we make our own decisions, but i think fate dictates what those decisions will be. I believe in karma too, i think everything happens for a reason and if something is meant to be, it will be.

Uaually a mixture of both, if by "fate" you mean being in the right/wrong place at the wrong/right time and not some fore-ordained sort of thing.

I don't believe in fate as a force that guides the sequence of events. I do believe in it as "one's lot", the recognition of the sequence of events over which one has no control that have led up to one's present circumstances.

I don't believe in destiny as a synomym of that force that guides us. I do believe each individual creates their own destiny through willful determination. Destiny, in this sense, is the accumulation of their choices and actions.

I like to think of fate as being that there are many paths that you can take and that are set out. You make choices and with each choice one path ends but other paths open up.

I guess that means I think our decisions control our fate.

is it fate if you can decide what it is?

Actually, I posted without thinking...

I've always been fatalistic, but it's my belief that your choices are all about how you get to your fate.

However, over the past few years I've started to become a little less fatalistic, in the sense that I don't believe there is only one fate.

So, I would say that yes it is fate, but you can choose which fate and how you arrive at that destination.

I don't believe in fate, but it doesn't seem to matter either way. So long as I have the illusion, correct or not, of free will, I'm fine. Besides, you could never prove fate one way or the other.

I dont believe whatsoever in 'fate' or 'predestination.'

If "free will" is an illusion, the fact is trivial.
