I noticed a few left-wingers said they would oppose it. Why?

I'm not sure what it is. All I know is that Bush the elder mentioned it once, and Ministry used the soundbite in their song "NWO".

I don't think the NWO as conspiracies say it as exists, however I do have my issues w/the world's current tendency to centralize power....

For those who don't know, the following are among the main supporters/promoters of the New World Order: the Council on Foreign Relations; the Trilateral Commission; the Bildebergers (sp?); the Institute for Policy Studies; the Royal Institute of International Affairs (I think that's what it's called); the United Nations and its affiliates; NAFTA; the WTO; ASEAN; the European Union; the African Union; and the Project for a New American Century, to name just a few.

The New World Order is the plan to gradually submerge every nation into an all-powerful, one-world government, where an elite few would impose a totalitarian, socialist dictatorship upon the rest of mankind. The super-rich would live like sultans, while the rest of the planet worked like slaves to support the state.

How is that socialist?
Yeah, I'm really failing to see the Socialism in that scheme.

How is that socialist?
It won't be socialist in the sense that wealth will be evenly distributed, but in the sense that every aspect of the economy will be under the government's control.

Shit, we have that now. Who controls the government? The rich. Who controls industry? The rich. Both are owned by the same people.

Except under the NWO, there will be no middle-class. The government will comprise all the wealthy. Everyone else will be dirt poor, and thus easily brain-washed.

Oh, you mean that whole illuminaty conspiracy crap? Of course I dont believe in that. I voted yes and I support it because the real term new world order reffers to the world order created with the fall of communism (and which is still being molded).
For those of you too young to remember, the old world order was composed of three groups. The first (reffered to as the first world) was composed of the United States, United Kingdom, and other mostly capitalist democratic countries that were collectively reffered to as NATO countries. The second world was composed of The Soviet Union, Poland, East Germany, and other "communist" countries and were collectively reffered to as Warsaw Pact countries. The third world was composed of unaligned nations like India, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, and South Africa.
With the fall of "communism", the Warsaw Pact broke down, and a new world began to take shape. This new order that is taking shape is one where nations are no longer divided into NATO or Warsaw Pact based entirely on political/economic ideology and the threat of military war, but rather they are divided into large groups of independent nations that work together to wage economic war using free trade agreements. These groups (NAFTA and the European Union being the most prominent) are replacing NATO and the Warsaw Pact as the major players in the new world order.

Great. Now instead of being led by nations, who at least listen to the people sometimes, we will be led by NAFTA and EU bureocrats who don't give a crap about the citizens of the countries they deal with.

The old world order didnt divide the world into nations, it divided it into NATO, Warsaw Pact, and others. The new one divides it into NAFTA, EU, and others. Same thing, different basis. The basis is now economic competition rather than cold war. All of the countries still maintain their independence just like they did under NATO and the Warsaw Pact.

I voted "other". Let me explain:
To me, it seems as though there is not yet a complete coherent NWO network or organization or anything like that. But, it seems as though now is the perfect time for them to begin trying to take over, what with the latest developments with the EU, UN, NAFTA, and all that. It seems as though people are recklessly supporting nationalization and that it would be very simple for a properly funded organization to seize economic, and later political, control of a large chunk of the planet, within the next twenty years or so.
That's my opinion on the NWO in a nutshell, it doesn't exist yet, but it's being formed. I hope I explained it well...
EDIT:
Oh yes, I forgot to say that I definately oppose it. Although I am leftist, I cannot see any good coming from a movement towards globalized power, really. All I can see coming out of it is poorer poor, richer rich, and most of the population being exploited.

Hello!
One thing to note is that everyone is the playing the New World Order/Old World Order thing.
Communists, Socialists, Neo-Nazis, Conservatives, Libertarians, Fascists etc... all talk about a coming a New World Order. The same shit has been pushed for over 100 years now. 'After this war, a necessary righteous glorious and noble war, there will be a new golden era for all of mankind in which everyone will be free and live like never before'
It's that kind 'horseshit' that has been propaghandised at us forever now.
So no I dont belive in it.
If youor talking about Bush's NWO I dont belive in that either.

Icke's delusions somehow manage to encompass extra-dimensional shapeshifters and their "Reptilian Agenda"; Atlantis & Lemuria; "secret bloodlines"; the assertion that the U.S. presidency amounts to hereditary succession through a line of "hybrid demons"; the use of fluorinated water as an "intellect suppressor"; chemtrails; extraterrestrial spacecraft; wild-eyed musings on pre-orchestrated nature of the September 11th and Oklahoma City terrorist attacks; a child-sacrificing, immortal Queen Mother; and, somewhat incongruously, the belief that all religions amount to a reptilian-propagated social opiate.
