1. What is the meaning of the word spam as used in this forum? It seems to me like the meaning is different from the typical internet definition of spam. So, what is spam on the forum?

2. How are the stars on the rating column assigned and why do most posts not have any at all?

3. How do you create a poll?

4. Why do so many people insist on beating a dead horse until there is absolutely nothing left of it?

Allow me:

1. Off topic, meaningless post.

2. Somewhere above a thread you're in you see 'rate it'. Here you can give the thread stars. It is voluntary, so not all threads have them.

3. when you're in a sub forum (this is General for example). Above the pages you see 'new post' in a grey cube-thingie. Click it (btw, There is one above and one under, I believe only the last one works).

4. see above. EDIT: and under

4. Why do so many people insist on beating a dead horse until there is absolutely nothing left of it?

That is the point of NS general; to generate millions of threads with: abortion, rape, christian, gun control, US sux, democrat, republican, bush &ct. in the title.

Once in a while a new type of thread will come along and take off, but it will quickly spawn thousands of silly imitations and they all get locked for spam.

If you get bored you can make your own up. I suggest attacking the left for hypocracy, those usually do pretty well too.

1. "Spam" is a rather loosely defined term and varies with the Mod on duty, the poster's political orientation, and for all I know, the time of day! :)

2. People vote for the threads they like/don't like by hitting the "Rate Thread" button in the upper right hand corner of the thread.

3. Scroll down when you're typing the original post for a new thread. All will become clear. :)

4. Anger? Sensitivity to the issue? Boredom? Sheer cussedness?

1. Depends on who you ask. In essence, as long a its on topic with thread its ok.

2 & 3 have been pretty well covered.

4. Its like Everest... Because we can.

Assuming it has the same meaning as in other forums, a troll is someone who creates an inflammatory post just to piss people off and bait them into responding. You know posts like "all christians must die, heil Hitler!"
