Sorry, I thought that this was hilarious. For those not up to date on Australian politics, John Howard made a claim during his election campaign that interest rates would go up under Labour leadership. He got back in office under that pretext. More recently, the interest rates went up and we're in a deficit. Most amusing to see Peter Costello (the Treasurer) squirm

The Australian current account has been in deficit for 27 years.

And Howard said interest rates would go up; no matter who won; but would go up more under Labour.

Some people have selective hearing.

The chairman of the reserve bank said that it would probably go up no matter who won the election, butJ. Ho did the best he could do to mislead the electorate. "Interest rates will rise under Labour," I know it does not say that interest rates will not rise under the Libs but it does tend to imply it somewhat. Dirty pool Prime Miniture, dirty pool.

This week wasn't the best news for the Oz economy.

That 30% rebate for health insurance sure isn't working.
Mr "I have an illegimate child" approved the increase from the health insurers again. I seems my particular Health Insurance plan goes up 9.6% when I renew it.
