The guy killed himself after shooting all 4 cops who went out to make the bust. WTF? you dont have backup? They didnt know what happened till after a cop on a unrelated call stumbled onto the place. odd.

5 people die because of marijuana being illegal. What an ignorant waste of life.

Yeah. It's bad enough when someone has to die to bring a criminal to justice, worse when many people have to, and even worse when it's over nonsensical laws.

It's crap like this that makes me think that prohibition doesn't work.

4 people are dead because of 1 excuse of a life. Don't you dare try to blame the man's crimes on drugs being illegal.

Anybody who will kill 4 police over a small charge, like it's nothing; would probably kill anyway, regardless of the circumstances, if it suited him to do so.

The US proved that with their Prohibition on Alcohol......

We are politicizing this thread already? No matter what anyone thinks about drugs, these people died in the line of duty. A death is a death, not an abstraction to be toyed with. Save political sentiments for later, for nothing changes the fact that four brave men are no longer with us.

Tragic news. Sympathy with there families. Well now I wanted to ask our Canadian cousins if the death penalty should be allowed for this kind of thing?

Hey now, logic has no place in the War on Drugs, not to be confused with the War on Multicolored Kitchen Appliances or the War on Fluffy White Bunnies.

I know I'm not supposed to reply directly to you, but this once I just have to...

I totally agree with you. This happened in a community very close to my own. The guy was a known psychopath (I don't know if that is medically true) and people were afraid of him. You have to be one cold-blooded, or really, really paranoid person to do what he did. Don't make it about drugs, or alcohol or whatever. He chose, he acted, he snuffed out five lives (including his own).

Kind of pointless considering he killed himself...

But no. I don't think it would solve anything. This guy wouldn't have cared about getting the death penalty.

The other problem was, the RCMP only had handguns, while he had a high-powered rifle. Only one cop got off a shot before they went down. This guy must have been waiting for them...two were on a stakeout, and the other two had just come to relieve them when this happened. No one is sure yet why they left their positions.
