Not the hardest trivia question I've ever asked, but I'm listening to the soundtrack right now and it's stuck in my mind.

Who can tell me where the number 24601 comes from and what it represents?

It stands for the 24 Flemish Belgians who crossed the river Danube, near Prague, in the year 601, in order to buy some fresh cheese for their land

That's how many Getting Help requests have been filed as of February 12 of this year.

...

Not the answer you're looking for?

In that case, I'm going to go get lost, now.

24601

24601 is an odd number. In Les Miserables, the lead character (Jean Valjean) was known only as '24601' during his 19 years in jail. While he goes on to live a good life, becoming a successful capitalist and loving father, he is continuously hunted by the government (policeman Javert), who wants to return him to a life as a number. They don't succeed.

meh, 24601 is also the POW number of principal Skinners from 'the Simpsons' and the inmate number of Sideshow Bob in thesame series.

Damn, someone beat me to it.

I looked at the number, and literally jumped up in suprise because I was 24601 (Jean Valjean) in Les Miserables in my senior year.

And so, Javert, you see it's true
This man bears no more guilt than you...
Who Am I..... 24601!

I love that play.

I love that play.

Me too. :D I've seen it twice - once at the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and once at the Pantages in Hollywood, with my girlfriend on our three-year anniversary. Absolutely amazing both times.

It's definitely my favorite musical. :)
Do you happened to remember the one part where Valjean had to go to a really high pitch while sorta yelling the #24601? Yea, on one of the performances, my voice cracked while shouting it. I was soooo embarrassed... :(

I've seen it four times, and have both the Broadway and the "Ultimate" Cast Albums...

and the part with the Bishop never fails to make me cry. :)

I want the Dreamcast album, but all I have right now is the Original Broadway cast. Its one of the best musicals, in my opinion. Although Wicked has moved up high on my list.

The one part that always made me tear up was when Eponine died... It probably didn't help that the person who played it in our h.s. production fit the part perfectly. In the first performance, I literally started to cry (I was a soldier behind the barricade when she climbed over it, and stood right next to her and Marius when she died in his arms) because Beth (Eponine) played that part so perfectly.

Goodness, I wish I could be in it again....

Have you seen it yet? I've read the book it was based on, but haven't managed to jump on the subway and get tickets. I hear it is wonderful, though.

I saw it the day before Idina was supposed to leave; I actually got to see her last performance because she got hurt at the end.

I read the book when it first came out years ago, because I love his stories, but Wicked was just amazing...I've had the CD for about a year, and I knew I loved the music, but it was an amazing experience to actually be there for the show and see Idina on stage. She was incredible. It doesn't really follow the book, but I think it works out well on stage the way they did it...I think if it followed the book completely, it would be too depressing to work.

I got front row tickets when it came to Detroit. It was the most amazing performance I've ever seen in my life.
