What's the best motherboard?
So what is the best motherboard? I feel like having the best comp..., well either way, and if there is no such thing as the best motherboard, can you at least link me to a site, where it explains the difference?
Or even better, you type it here. ;)

The proprietary nonstandard one that came with my HP, making it impossible to transfer it to a new case, which I only figured out after I finished putting in everything but the motherboard. Then I learned that HP wasn;t even supposed to be using the proprietary board anymore and I had gotten ripped off by Best Buy.
That is the best motherboard.

The one that's going to be released next week.
The one that's going to be released next week.
And which one is that?

Who cares, by the time it's out, it'll be out of date.

You don't get it. It's always the one that's going to be released next week.
Or the one with the G5.

The 'next week' thing was a joke. A G5 is a PowerPC from Motorola. IBM might still make them, too.

It almost seems like it. Anyway, don't worry about which mb is best. Determine what you want to be doing now and what you'll want to be doing next year, see what's available from the main manufacturers, I like Asus, see what you absolutely need and what you can make without. Pick two or three options and shop around. That'll be the best motherboard.
Oh. A G5 is a CPU from IBM-Motorola. It's the CPU found on the Mac, but you can also run Linux, BSD and other OS's on it.

This is seen a lot in market computers , offhand I know HP (which used to use SIS boars … not sure anymore) were nonstandard
Along with gateway
Dell
E-machines
And just about any other brand out there … (a lot of different reasons) example
Dell – Differing power supply/adapter that is not ATX compliant along with a differing power switch
Gateway has power switch issues
E-machines generally power switch and sometimes form factor issues
And so on so forth
As for my choice of brand … A-bit or Gigabyte … I have built more then 50 computers with the a-bit nf7-s and An7 boards … all extremely reliable and good performance
I am using an A-Bit board on my new computer (dual 64 bit processors) … great brand

Psst OS10 and OSX ARE bsd bassed :p
But yes I have seen FreeBSD running on one ... handles the duals well

Incorrect … fastest factory bought … and only if you are doing certain applications ;) check their reporting for a range of applications … then test it compared to dual AMD fx55’s ;)

Used that exact model in 20+ computers … not one single complaint
All ran fast and had great features

Indeed, and HP, uses a company called Congac, who I've never heard of it. Dell also has there own ram, and motherboards, there for it wont work in anything else.

Dell uses standard ram (both their sd and their ddr boards) infact dell comes stock with crucial/micron ram (good choice)
The one in that IBM Regatta Server. You can warm-upgrade a processor and you can have up to 256 processors. you will have to sell your mom for that though.

i like gigabyte boards.
they fit better than any others I've used in the dodgy cheap cases I like, and they send you all the bits and pieces you need, and I've never had any problems building systems with them.
Plus the onboard sound, sata controller and nic are fine for my needs.

Being a former HP user, I share your pain, Neo. :( I couldn't even replace the proc. Best of luck. :)

You realize that by the time it is released to the public all electronics are already 2-3 generations out of date. So you can never really have the best!
My cousin owns a PC company and he told me Asus is the best on the market right now.
