I've received opinions e.g they seem to be a burden, as they don't keep up. But they're opinions or just subjective incidents, I suppose.

If a woman want to live up to the same standards of a man in the military, then so be it [unfortantely this is not the case]. You better fight well, because I'm not paying you because you have a 'right' to be there. American defenders must be good, and if you can't keep up, then you'll inherit that bullet and cause your fellow soldier to die. But to those women hold their own...good going...only you deserve to be there.

Actually, I knew a guy in the army who said he didn't have any issues with women in the army he just didn't want any to be in his combat unit. His opinion was nothing to do with women being unable to cope with combat or being less able in any way but it certainly was everything to do with his fear that the other men in his unit would start doing stupid things to either impress her or take stupid risks to help her in a combat situation.

So basically he didn't want a woman in his unit because the MEN would start acting like asshats.

second of all, males have repeatedly been shown to demonstrate less ability to regulate their emotions than females. though our stereotypes insist women are the emotive sex, research does not bear that out.

Quite true. Men overreact far more than women ever do, which is why perhaps men commit more violent murders than women becuase they're more easily provoked. But I'm amused that most women think that they're more emotional than men and use that fact to cover for their weaknesses. I've seen very few females who do act strong and sometimes act stronger than males.

Very well said. I have noticed through experiance though limited that men have a harder time with issues of breakups of relationships than do woman. I really believe that it is men who are the "emotional" ones as far as a generalization goes.

That means that if you pick 1000 women and 1000 men, their total combined intelligence would be the same. It means that if you pick 1 woman and 1 man, most of the time they would be fairly equally smart, and the remaining percentage would be equally split between having a dumber and a smarter man.

Of coarse it was a simplification. One couldn't be concious if they didn't use both sides of their brain. The question of where the blood usually is present has been in many studies.

Most of this does spring back to habits and cultures...things which we've been doing since are birth as humans. I wouldn't be suprised that there's certain people that don't follow the habits of humanity or that are mentalities have changed along it's coarse.

Now to the serious stuff. I don't think that either gender is superior to the other. Both have advantages and disadvantages, but both are equal in the end. I would agree to that men generally are better in control of their rationality, while women are better in control of their emotions. With this I mean they better know this part of themselves and how to use it or at least know it sooner. I also said "generally", for there are always exceptions. You could say that there is a masculine and feminine bandwith and at some point they overcross. So there are men with feminine attributes and vice versa.

The question is the wrong one. This is the right one: Are men naturally inferior to women?

The rather obvious answer is yes. Men have half a chromosome less than women. They are more prone to deaths from genetic causes, substance abuse, violence, traffic accidents, etc., and all this is attributable to male genetics. Men have an inferior ability to control their emotions, plus that they are more prone to social problems, like serial killers are practically always men. Men die several years earlier than women. They cannot procreate - their basic function is to be a gene vector, nothing else.

But, even with these obvious disadvantages, they do have a few, but not insignificant strong points. One of them is the adaptation to use brute physical strenght. The other is improved spatial reasoning. These do not imply superiority, but they're giving a (only razor-thin) edge to an otherwise inferior creature.

In the stone age, it is well possible that women hunted, too, and took time to bear children not very often. The modern system, where women spend most of their time pregnant is a evolutionary "stunt" that has paid off. Humans have practically eradicated or marginalized all the natural predators threatening them from very large areas. But, this is not going to go on forever.

Actually due to the decay of the Y chromosone, within 5,000 generations only women will be required.

But there is a general attitude in modern society that women are smarter and more beautiful than men.

For example on www.deviantart.com, most artistic nudes are women and these tend to be praised. But when someone submits a good male nude piece, it is far more likely to be taken as a joke, made fun of, etc.

All men can have orgasms from about age 13 or so, some earlier. A whole lot of women won't even experience an orgasm through straight sex and only through oral. Some women will be able to experience orgasms during their teens, but they are the minority. And some very few women can have multiple orgasms. Women have a wide range when it comes to sex. Men on the other hand are pretty much all of the same variety with different amounts of stamina.

Considering that I've only been able to do that with one woman consistently, and only one woman has been able to do that to me consistently, I have the feeling that being good in bed depends largely on the two people involved - not on whether any individual is any good.

i've read some post's about how the y-chromosome is only *half* the size, so hence women are superior. but if these people went to school they would realise that our y-chromosome is *paired up* with an x chromosome. so instead of it being *half a chromosome less*, it's actually *half a chromosome more*, since the y chromosome codes for somethings that an x chromosome doesn't. it is true that because of this set up men on average have more genetic diseases, but the opposite must be true too, that being men have on average more genetic advantages also. it's all about the *bigger range* thing again.

as for intelligence and exam results... men are better at maths, yet most exams... even physics, chemistry and maths even have too much english in them. if you word questions in a more pro female way, then girls will obviously get higher exam results.

The Y chromosome doesn't actually contain many genes, virtually all are those required to determined maleness. Most of it is redunant genes and repeated sections. Because there is no other Y chromosome to pair up and cross over with, it just accumulates more mutations. I'm not sure it's really a genetic advantage really. Plus increased testosterone in males is believed to play a role in the shorter length of life in males compared to that of females.

Um no. All the word questions are is a way of presenting variables to you that you then need to plug into an equation. They are math problems through and through. Replacing every single question on a physics exam with word problems wouldn't change the fact that men would, on the average, do better than women.

I had another theory.

Being a mother is not being the housemaid. It's being a manager. In the old days, the mother managed the home. It wasn't simple and it wasn't easy.

I believe that there's been selection pressure (from a reproductive standpoint) on women over the ages to select for good mangers - otherwise, the survival of the family would have been at risk.

It's not just the interpersonal skills. The women I've met know how to manage.

It is pointless to ask the question "are men naturally better than women?" because it demands the question "better at what?". If you ask what the best car is, what is the answer? Well, there is no answer, the answer depends on what your criteria is. If it is raw speed then the best car is something like the Lamborghini diablo. If your criteria is reliability, then the best car is probably something like the Buick Regal, Toyota Camry, or Nissan Maxima. If you are talking about the best car for off road use, then the answer is probably something from Land Rover. If your criteria is the best car for hauling heavy loads, then the best car will obviously be some type of pickup truck. The point is there is no all around "better" or "best". The same applies in the field of computers (best for graphics? a SGI workstation, best for physics computation? a Cray, best for servers? Sun microsystems, best for home users? Mac. etc..). There is rarely a best at everything and this applies to humans as well. Men are naturally better than women at some things. Women are naturally better than men at others. The question of who is better is unfair and poorly thought out.

This is a silly issue. Some think men are better. Others think that of women. I think neither. They each have strong points, but both are human. Besides, isn't equality supposed to be the ideal?
