That's right folks.

The government resigned and stated that they will not stand in the way of change.

Is Syria losing its grip finally on Lebanon? Will Syria finally be pushed out of Lebanon? Time will tell.

Thats an interesting development, looks like Syria may lose hold on Lebanon.

NOTE: I thought I'd want to explain this for any Americans who don't understand the conetxt of the word 'government' here. I've just learned it myself and it is different from what we Americans are used to.

The 'Government' as its called in the parliamentary system obly refers to the top ranking officials within the civil servie body. When the government resigns, it would be much like the President's cabinet, as well as the Presdient quitting their jobs and having new people fill in their places.

It is an interesting development. Hopefully Syria gets the message and pulls out of Lebanon as they should have 26 years ago.

As for the word government, yep, that about sums it up.

Syria will (if not already) loose its grip on Lebanon. If not by diplomacy, then by force, as they are surrounded by nations that dont like them.

Thank you, I just thought that the entire Lebanese government packed up, left, and left a note on the building saying that they quit.

How much longer do you think it'll be before Syria is out of Lebanon?

This is all very interesting indeed. I have no idea what will come of it, hopefully in turns out well in the end, and without another capitol ending up in rubble.

With the resigning of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet, the protestors are now going after the Syrian-backed President.

I think this is a good chance for the US to show its diplomacy skills.

Hmm. Like the Palestinian-Israeli thing? Like telling Syria to get out of Lebanon? Like telling Syria to hand over former members of Saddam's regime who are supporting terrorists in Iraq?

Oh, those diplomatic things. Seems to be working.

Well didn't Syria hand over Saddam's half brother?

What's interesting is the sudden focus on Syria. At least I haven't heard alot about syria in the news going back a couple of years. And now suddenly they are, with the assasination of ex-primeminister Harriri, in the crosshair of the world.
Let's not forget that they are acused of both the primeministers assasination, supplying iraqi insurgents, suplying palestinian insurgents and even performing the latest bombing in Tel- aviv.

If it was the Syrians who killed Harriri, it now seems as if the action has blown up in their faces.
This tragedy has given both opposing organisations and other countries a window of opertunity that has been used by many.

The incident has also taken focus of the reemerging iraqi insurgents.

I myself belive that the resigning of the lebanese government is a step in the right direction and what's even more admireble is that it was seen through without any bloodshed. I hope that other troubled nations will be inspired by this act of the people.
