Yay Paul Martin!
Did I hear correctly? He had the cojones to say "No" to that stupid missile defense plan?
If so, I'll be celebrating over here, anyone is welcome to join me, especially fellow canadians who will not be having their tax dollars thrown in on a project that has failed in every test so far but is going on anyways.

Yeah, your tax dollars only went into Mr Martins' friends pockets.
BTW it will eventually work. People didn't think it was possible to put a man on the moon, but we did it. Just wait a couple of years, and whoops there it is!
Yes, they will be able to shoot down many missiles coming at once very shortly even though they can't even shoot down one now.
Furthermore, even if it did work, I disagree with the entire operation on principle. How stupid are we as a species where we're to the point of aiming weapons at our only home?

Very, very stupid. Face it, it can, and likely will, happen.

Hooray... and then with the much publicized ability to shoot down any ballistic missiles anyone might want to send your way (something that has never happened before...) I'm sure if some country feels like sending a nuke in your direction they'll certainly be choosing a ballistic missile as their delivery system rather than, say, sailing it into San Francisco Bay on a freaking boat.
Yes, I'm sure this will prove to be money well spent... much better than diverting similar resources to improving your relations with other members of the international community so people aren't so eager to blow Americans up in the first place.
Kudos to you.

ok, forget about being defended by the missile shield then, you can't have it both ways.

You mean being made into a target by it.

And how many time did we practice landing stuff on a moon, just once..
You know guys, this topic has been beaten to death over 24 odd pages already.

Good. Keep your stupid star wars program.
Weapons in space = bad. I'll have no part of it and I'm glad that the government here had the stones to say no under pressure.

I was not aware of this thread..
No worries - I nearly started a new topic about it myself a couple of days back. But I got beaten to the post.

People also say that is impossible to pee blood out of your ass, and that hasn't happened yet. Sometimes things just don't work. We'd be much more obliged to help and spend money on missile defence if there was actually a small possibility of it working. As for the "wait a couple of years" this program has been worked on for over twenty years since the Reagan administration and still hasn't turned up jackshit, its functionality isn't a few years down the road, it is more like a few decades down the road.
I read a little bit of an article in the paper before I had to go this morning and I just wanted confirmation, really. I thought they'd cave, to be honest.

Yeah, we are still waiting for your beloved patriot missile system to work. Oh wait, it did have 2 successful hits, too bad that was on allied planes :(
The missile system is history repeating itself. What you have is a bunch of cold war generals using OLD war tactics to fight the next war. We already saw what the next war would be in the Tokyo subway systems in mid 90s. It is not going to be missiles (not that the missile shield would work anyhow - yes I know 6 out of 9 successful hits, so what, they had homing becons on them, the North Koreans/Iranians don't put homing becons on their missiles!) the next war will be fought pure terrorist style. Suicide bombers etc, in fact we are fighting the next war as we speak cause sooner or later we will be hit with a 'dirty' bomb :(

actually that is what is probably going to happen (suicide bomber) unfortunately and the missile shield wont stop a thing in relation to that :(

I have to hand it to Paul Martin this time, brilliant! We won't have to spend a dime on this silly missile defense system, so the Americans can't test it over our air space, but because of our partnership with NORAD, in case of war or emergency they can use it. Kudos Mr. Martin, you out foxed the foxes! :)
