I think from the title my position should be obvious.
However, just to make it clear:
real RPGs involve playing a role. Playing a role is a dynamic activity. Playing a FPS or adventure game is not the same. FPSs should be classified as war games, and adventure games (Laura Croft and that ilk) as adventure games.

Leave the term RPG for real role players.

if laura croft is the only adventure game you can think of, you seriously need to see some old SCUMM games.

do not associate the likes of monkey island and sam and max with the likes of laura croft.

Day of the Tentacle is simply the greatest game that has ever been seen by any semblance of intelligent beings anywhere.
