I think from the title my position should be obvious.
However, just to make it clear:
real RPGs involve playing a role. Playing a role is a dynamic activity. Playing a FPS or adventure game is not the same. FPSs should be classified as war games, and adventure games (Laura Croft and that ilk) as adventure games.
Leave the term RPG for real role players.
