The Canadian Soldier, Sailor and Airman are becoming a dying breed...

Why? The Canadian Military has a proud history... We achieved success where very few could...

The best, brightest and bravest troops the world has ever known are fading away...

Who's to blame!? and why...

Maybe it is because the Canadian citizen is growing up? In the UK, there are as many tv adverts for "Join the Military" as there are for cars, hygiene products, or supermarkets. I assume this is because people would rather have a career that isn't war-related.

Maybe Canada is the same? Like they say, "What if they held a war and nobody came?"

War is a neccessary evil to protect what you hold dear the most...
I don't know about you...but Canada is a beautiful and great country... And to keep what we took so much time to build we have to defend it...

Military ads are so "clean" showing happy people playing with big toys and saying how good life is in the military. They never show the aftermath of what you actually do.

Everyone can put stuff in inverted commas - check this out:

"It is better to hide behind a rock and not get shot"

"If you are willing to die for something, go ahead, just leave me out it"

How erudite am I?

Furthermore, what do you mean war is a necessary evil? Do you mean that if nobody was attacking Canada, you'd attack it yourself just so you could also defend it?

And have you noticed, nobody *has* attacked Canada have they?

Why? The last war where that was the case was 60 years ago. There have been wars since then that western countries have been in whichhad nothing to do with this.

Unless you hold imperialism dear to your heart.

Historically war has had more to do with increasing dominion and controling resources than protect what is held dear.

I don't know about you...but Canada is a beautiful and great country... And to keep what we took so much time to build we have to defend it...

Hasn't it been over a century since Canada had to defend against a foreign invader?

"It is better to die standing then live on your knees."

"If you are not willing to die for something, your probrably worth nothing..."

Two quotations from people not in a state army iirc.

If anything they are calls for revolution than military recruitment slogans

So...... the fact that the Government underfunded and cut back troop strength for the past three decades had nothing to do with it? It is all cultural?

I have several family members who are either serving or retired CF members. While some were discouraged at times by the budget cuts they all remain loyal to the forces. Furthermore the just-released budget includes a mandate to add 5,000 members to the forces. Frankly, I don't think that they will have problems filling those slots.

Attacking Canada with the US right next door would be a bit like the French attacking the Republic of Ireland because they hate the British Isles. The only reason to attack Canada would be personal ones, not idealogical ones. And maybe because Canada spawned Celine Dion, but that's a different matter entirely.

War is not neccessary. Especially if you don't care. Why should Canada go gallavanting around the world starting wars or getting involved in them? And why would anyone attack Canada? If you maintain a military to protect your country ,that's fine. If you maintain a military to start wars, you're gonig to hell

Then the first nutjob with a machine gun and an armored car gets to declare himself emperor for life.

That's not not true, people would still defend themselves, or retaliate for themselves. Someone would slit that mofo's throat in his sleep.

For some reason, we have far less nutjobs up here than we hear about south of the border. Less machine guns and armoured cars, too.

I would organize a militia to take over Canada and do several things

1)Find and destroy all ancestry of Celine Dion
2)Have Rush make a new national anthem because they pwn you all.
3)Outlaw the word/sound "eh."
4)Give power to the libertarian movement in Canada, headed by Rush.

Nor do they show the unchecked result of mad dictators or evil people, or the effect of mass drug smuggling and international crime. So your point is?

Well, Rush being great and all, I'm still going to have to spearhead an opposition party, which will be of the Hip variety.

That would be like showing the side effects of the newest drug from a pharmacutical company. Now that wouldnt be good advertising now would it?

But then that would be a war, and wars are bad

Also, what makes anyone think that it has to be an internal nutjob? I mean, what if the Michigan Militia got pissed off enough at the US and decided that they could just go push over some peacenik country and then they can have their gun orgy or whatever those guano locos do up there.

Yeah... because they are ads. They are not trying to scare or inform.

Ads in the personals never talk about how the SWF didn't get potty trained until she was 10 and still wets the bed now and then... you don't talk about how you hated your last boss (and sent him a cardboard box o' poo) on your resume...
