Silent Bob is so much more fun that Jay. Jay is fun, but Silent Bob is just... funner. I loved the scene in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back where Silent Bob hasn't said anything through the whole movie(as usual) and then goes off into a long, complicated speech about copyright values. I expected it but the timing was just perfect.

I love NS General because people respond so quickly. It's awesome. I'm really used to Technical and Moderation so this is awesome.

I think that it was way better than Mallrats.

Well I've never senn mall rats but Clerks cracked me up. It's funnier every time you watch it(well until you memorize it, then it's just plain annoying) becasue you notice smaller, finer jokes that lay in the background.

way better than mallrats? ill have to disagree, clerks is good and everything, but mallrats was definently a lot more funny (SB and the force, that fat guy and the 3d image). and ill have to go with both of them, neither one of them would be nearly as good without the other one, i dont even think one of them by themselves could do anything. it would just be to weird. (dogma is definently the best movie by the way ;) )

Has anyone else seen An Evening with Kevin Smith? It's all Q&A with various college campuses and totally cracked me up. The guy would be a hoot to hang out with for an evening simply based on his storytelling ability.

Absolutely.

Any movie that kills Matt Damon is worth seeing..... not to mention George Carlin as a Cardinal!

Not should, must.

Agreed.

I'd say they're both very cool, both had their moments. Silent Bob trumps Jay as far as coolness factor, but Jay is simply one of the most hilarious characters ever created.

Oh, and I prefer the terms nerd or geek, not dork.

I concur... but, more importantly, Ben Affleck was killed. Certainly a divine message there, considering who killed him.

Silent Bob. I've only seen Dogma, i have to admit it, tho i did read a comic... sorry, a "graphic novel" of them once. Oh, twice actually, there was that one set just before their entrance in Dogma.

What's that line? "Snooch the mother f***ing dudes!" or something similar. :D

Superb choice of casting, Alanis Morisette as god. The way she skips of a does the handstand... had me in stitches. Not to mention the answer to the meaning of life being a tweaked nose and a small "whoot".

I need to watch that film again, so many superb quotes come rushing back.

"Wow, if a had a dick i'd go get laid. So i'll do the next best thing."

"What's that?"

"Kill someone."

*woman whimpers*

"Not you."

Silent Bob is my role model.

Of course, Silent Bob was also going to be my name once. I had a dare with a friend that wanted to change his name from Daniel to Dante so I said if he did that (since I was pretty sure he was talking crap) that I'd change mine to Silent Bob.

I still haven't changed my name, guess that makes me the winner.

I picked Silent Bob for a few reasons, though truth be told the bit doesn't work without both of them.

First, his narrative function. It's obvious what it is, but the characters make it work organically.

There is a line in the begining of Chasing Amy where a fan compares Bluntman & Chronic as Cheech & Chong meets Bill & Ted. Affleck's character responds saying that he always thought of them as Rosencrantz & Guildenstern meet Vladimir and Estragon. It's a passing, seemingly throw away line, but if you look at the characters that is more or less accurate, and a great insight into how to read those characters within the narrative. (Hamlet and Waiting for Godot, for those who are lost.)

Second, Silent Bob is the filmmaker, and by presenting the author as a silent figure in the narative is intriguing.

Third, while it was irratating to get that snap assumption, smart culturally literate characters where legitimazed by those films which is what I started writting when I began to write plays so it provided a 'proof of concept' for me to get in the door.

Fourth, before I switched to the vacationer hat and had to stop wearing the long coats because I bought a motorcycle, people thought I kinda looked like him-including one not very bright person that was convinced I really was him and just wouldn't tell him, though what he thought I was doing at a community college in Northern California on the day his movie opened I don't know.

Ahh, we got lucky - The Movie Network (Canada's HBO) carried it.

Other great quotes from Dogma:

Loki: You got to read at Sodom and Gomorrah. I had to do all the work.
Bartleby: What work did you do? You lit a few fires.
Loki: I rained down sulfur, man. There's a subtle difference.
Bartleby: Oh, okay, I'm sure.
Loki: Hey, you know, fuck you man. Any moron with a pack of matches can set a fire. Raining down sulfur is like an endurance trial. Mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in . . . next to soccer.

Bethany: What's he like?
Metatron: God? Lonely, but funny. He's got a great sense of humor. Take sex for example. There's nothing funnier then the faces you people make mid-coitus.
Bethany: Sex is a joke in Heaven?
Metatron: The way I understand it, it's mostly a joke down here, too.

Rufus: Back in the old days with J.C., we used to walk everywhere. Did you ever hear of a fat apostle?

Rufus: [T]hat's just what the good people of Antioch were saying, just before they stoned my ass.
Bethany: You were martyred?
Rufus: Well, that's one way of puttin' it. Another way is to say I was bludgeoned to shit by big fucking rocks!

Bethany: How do I know you're an angel?
Metatron: What, you mean aside from the fiery entrance and the expansive wingspan?

Silent Bob is the shit. And I have to agree that Dogma was the best in the series. It was great to see Professor Snape (got a younger brother, and you couldn't believe how many times he's made me watch those intollerable Harry Potter movies) as an angel. Fuckin cracks me up.

I have to disagree with the running sentiment that Dogma is the best. Chasing Amy is really the stand out Kevin Smith film and best of the 'View Askewniverse.' Granted, it has a VERY limited Jay and Silent Bob pressence, it's still the best Smith film.

For pure Jay & Silent Bobness, I have to take Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back. It really is just a play to the fans, a giant in-joke, but really it's the closest we could possibly come to a classic road movie today-and really road movies of that kind where always giant in-jokes.

EDIT:really really really really. Just wanted to use that word a few more times...........ugh...
