Which political belief/ lobby is the most dangerous to the future of the world and why?

id say the religous right for sure. they pushed the discussion in last years election away from the issues that matter and towards their morals.

tie between nationalists and 'far right' in my book, but that's because of my own (leftist) political leanings.

Nationalism. A little sprinkling of it is unharmful, and even beneficial. However, excessive nationalism breeds on itself, and is the pretext for fascism, communism, imperialism, and militarism. It crushes any chance of individual growth, and was the root cause of both world wars, were tens of millions of people were senselessly slaughtered.

Both nationalism and fascism are extremely dangerous ideologies which are based on hate and directly lead to mass murder and genocide. The best ideology is communism which aims to unite all of humanity in the fight to establish a democratic society free from all forms of exploitation. Although terrible crimes may have been committed by those claiming to be communists this has nothing to do with the communist ideology and I believe stalinism is much closer to fascism than socialism.

Extremists aren't a threat. They're too extreme for anyone to vote for them. It's been shown throughout history that extremists only take power when the authority of the state and the economy is greatly weakened, which now just isnt happening.

they arent a threat now, but if anything upsets the balance, then they storm through to seize power...people get complacent and think that the extremists will never get power...and thats, of course, when they do

Agreed, but voter apathy allows for career politicians. So I say voter apathy.

I personally can't understand why more people haven't said voter apathy. It is the enemy of a democracy. It renders a democracy invalid when the public no longer respects their right to vote.

I have seen shirts that have Che with an slash through him, that says "Commies aren't Cool" underneath the picture.

Yeah, that gets dangerous as it approaces communism, which (as history has shown us) probably won't work for obvious reasons...

The political ideologies aren't good or bad, dangerous or helpful. That is all dependant on opinion and circumstance.
I.E. People say all Democrats are great because F.D. Roosavelt was Democrat, or all Rebublicans are great because Eisenhower was Rebublican.
The rudiments of most political ideologies is meant to progress the nation in a positive way.

The human tongue is the most dangerous political weapon. As people will believe anything if it's said in a way that they can wrap their minds around.

All forms of extremism are dangerous, but only so in a democratic society due to the apathy of the majority.
Whether you support Bush or detest the man, it should be recognised that he won the most apathetic election I have ever heard of. (There may have been more apathetic ones, but certainly not with such far reaching consequences).

It seems like it's selective apathy more than anything, though.
Human beings really aren't all that stupid, some just care about different things. If you go down south(I'm from New York) people are very nice, and just as witty and intelligent as people up north. It's just they use their intelligence on different things. (Like Hunting :p)

We politically minded folk just need to realize that just because someone doesn't care or know all that much about politics that doesn't mean that they are stupid.

Apathy, definitely. When everyone is apathetic, extremists win elections.

i think extremists one either side are the biggest threat to the political process. they adress sideline issues that detract from the real probelms facing society. They also tend to pollute the political spectrum with their own ideals and conspiracy theories.

i don;t see why so many leftist see authoritatians as evil. some of your beliefs are authoritarian (gun control, enviromental controls, etc.)

I vote other. Politics is the dangerous force. Politics are just a bunch of well fabricated lies. I think on my own terms, and if I share the beliefs of one party or another I still don't believe I belong in that party nor do I ever want to. They just might do something I don't want them to do.
