So, I just watched this film on DVD. Yes, I know, I'm a bit behind, but when you have 3 kids you don't get to the cinema much, ok?
Anyway, just wanted to give a kudos to the British for this film. Damn fine bit of entertainment. Admittedly I had to look up a couple of bits of slang, but this is a damn fine film all around. I especially appreciate the subtle referrences to George Romero's classic with lines like "We're coming to get you, Barbara!" and such as that.
Humor, action, great SFX. If you haven't seen it, do so ASAP. It's a bit gorey for the kids, but adults should have a good time with it. :)

I like it, it's a good zombie movie in it's own right and it's funny, because they have British accents and England is inherently humorous.
Indeed, it was a very funny movie. LMAO at some parts.

I've been wanting to see that movie for...coming up to three years now! Grrr....Actually it would have been only a little while after Love Actually with Bill Nighy's comeback...
*misses British accents despite watching From Hell and re-watching Grail*
Heh, combine the gore from one and some of the humour of the other, then the romantic nature and Bill Nighy from LA and what do you get? A rom-com w/ zom!

Yes! I second any applause for Shaun of the Dead.
As a related aside, British filmmakers have really been impressing me lately.

I didn't see Shaun of the dead until about 3 weeks ago.
Been wanting to see it for ages, and it was worth it.
I like how it was like an extension of Spaced. That made me feel more at home with the characters.

I would just like to add my approval to Shaun of the Dead! Excellent zombies, and a great rip on some of the more idiotic things introduced into Zombie movies lately. Anyone else catch the line near the end? (paraphrasing): "And the rumour that the zombies were created by a virus has been shown to be a load of bu-". Love it.
One of the funniest parodies I've seen in a long time, but at the same time, a great zombie movie. :mp5: Killin' Zombies!

shaun of the dead rocks. most excellent movie. the lead guy (Simon Pegg) is also in (well, he writes) a show called Spaced, and has a small part in a brilliant show called Black Books. both of those are very much worth downloading, if you can find em :)

Ewww...do yourself a favour and read the graphic novel by Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell. Once you see just how they soddomised the great story Alan Moore had written, you probably won't think it too great a movie.

Dog Soldiers was good, strangely I didn't think much to Shaun Of The Dead in fact I liked the American counter-part alot better, Dawn Of The Dead 2004, ok it wasn't a comedy but it was just awesome.
If you want to watch something which shows true British humour I suggest, BrassEye or something along those lines. :)

To get back to Shaun of the Dead, I watched it the other week. The DVD cost me $8RMB (about 55p, $1US), and I felt it was value for money.
I thought it could have been funny. There were some bits that were good - like when he wanders down to the shop and doesn't notice the zombies and blood, or the very end where you see how the zombies are being used in game shows, zoos, or as trolley returners at the local supermarket.
But his mate annoyed me, cause he was such a twat. He did nothing but screw things up for everyone and I was left thinking 'Why the hell did Shaun put up with him for so long?'. He had no redeeming features whatsoever.
One other thing that I didn't like, but this is true of nearly all british movies not just 'Shaun...' is that they use only the same few actors. The characters they play are obviously written for that person. Bill Nighy played Bill Nighy in 'Shaun..', Shaun's Mum, Barbara, played by Penelope Wilton who pretty much did the same Penelope Wilton character she plays in everything she's in. Dylan Moran (David) played Dylan Moran.
And so on.
It just always ends up feeling very nepotistic and slightly incestuous. I wish they'd chance their arms a bit more and look for other, new actors more often. Then we might get more Shallow grave's with Ewan McGregor.

The first thirty minutes or so of the movie were so dull. But for some reason I couldn't stop laughing. Probably subliminal messages. Great movie.
I loved shaun of the dead! great film.

I would suggest the movie Bad Taste (http://www.badtaste.co.nz/)
It was lauded by reviewers (http://www.badmovies.org/movies/badtaste/) for being so bad it is good.
It is also worth note that it is Peter jackson's (http://tbhl.theonering.net/films/bad_taste.html) first feature length movie and he even plays a few roles in it.
But don't just take it from me, read the reviews and get it (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00005OCK5/102-8168617-1298562?v=glance) for yourself.
You won't be disappointed.

Actually, that was an Alien movie. As an aside, it took him 7 years to make, as he could only do it at the weekend and whenever he had enough money saved for film.
However Peter Jackson did make a Zombie movie (his 3rd movie, after the 'Feebles', which is the sickest parody of the Muppets you'll ever hope to see), called 'Brain Dead'.
Now that is a hilarious, sick Zombie movie. The main character is even chased by a digestive system in one scene (it runs up his leg, farting). You also find out that lawnmowers are far better than cricket bats for dealing with Zombies.

I could see similarities. He complained about everything and disliked pretty much everyone. It was just a shame he wasn't given the chance to be as caustic as he is in Black Books.

To be honest, he is the only one in SofD that really gets on my nerves, everyone else i can recognise in some of my friends so its amusing. It makes Dawn of the Dead (the recent remake) look like a complete shambles though...who needs shotguns etc, cricket bat and a spade will do ya nicely!

OoC: Oh, you mustn't have had the experience needed for find the true humour in "Ed", in England you get alot of fat (nothing wrong with being fat though) sad gits who try and be cool and say "Yo, wassup ******" in their annoyingly high pitched voice. In a few words: It's funny because it's true.
And remember, this is British humour and us Brit's pride ourselves on the pointlessness of our humour and the sheer insanity of it. Don't know what I mean, look for any Monty Python film.

Yes I think so too. They show his sense of humour better.
You do have to hand it to Harvey Weinstein, though, in being able to see just how talented Peter Jackson is. Based on his CV up until LOTR, you couldn't imagine why anyone would give him US$400 mill and let him dictate how and where three movies would be made.
Ah, Shaun of the Dead... Brilliant!
For another good Brit zombie movie (nowhere near as funny, but damn good all the same), try '28 days later'.

Actually he was only down for one. Then it all became too much. "Can I make three?" "will it be worth it?" "yes" "go ahead."

Shaun of the Dead= Best Zombie Movie EVER!
It had Zombies(always a plus), Comedy, British People, Shotguns, Beer, Pubs, a 24 Hour Store run by an Indian, everything a good movie needs!
28 Days Later(another British Zombie film) was just...not good. I mean, I guess it was OK...
Resident Evil (1 AND 2) both sucked. Big time.
Most other Zombie movies suck too.
