Long Hair

I was having a discussion with my ex about how his mom wants him to cut his hair and i don't like it. Is long hair good on guys? I say it's good on some, but definately not all. I was just wondering some other peoples opinions, male and female alike.

I used to have long hair. When I began flying I found it a nusence as it got in my face. However, the the hair didn't go to waste as I donated it.

Well, I know a good four or five guys with long hair. And only one has managed to adjust to the fact that long hair needs to be washed more thoroughly than short hair, and more often. The other 3 or 4 just walk around with a week's worth of grease in their hair. Yech.

So I'm voting 'yes, as long as they can keep it clean'. Otherwise they can expect to be threatened by a crazy girl brandishing scissors, most likely.

Of course, that would pretty much go for girls too, except I don't often see girls with grease-trap hair.

see, my ex has started growing his hair and i think it looks horrible on him, but my new boyfriend has long hair, and i think it looks great on him, as well as a number of other guys from my school and work, and yes, i have noticed guys tend to have greasy hair when it's long because they don't wash it enough an dit can be gross, lol, oh well... what ya gunna do about it

long hair can look awesome on guys as long as they take care of it (wash it every day or at least every other day) and cut off the split ends when it starts to look bad. i like shoulder length on guys the best, but sometimes longer looks awesome too!

meh...i rather like it...i'm in the process of growing my hair out...it looks like crap right now but that shouldn't last much longer.

addressing the "guys need to adjust hair washing for length" thing...i find that amazing. my hair's only about 2 inches longer then it normaly is and i already see the need for adjustment. i can't stand the dirty hair feling. those guys just must be really stupid

I disagree. I used to have long hair and it was so easy to take care of. Just run a comb through it and tie it up. No concerns about bedhead or cowlicks just hair that falls down. Several women even used to comment "wow, you never have a bad hair day."

I used to have long hair as a kid, like my dad did. I got bored with it after a year or two.

Of course, I'm starting to get neanderthal-long hair now :D

On women, I like long hair... http://img227.exs.cx/img227/8438/pimp4tq.gif :fluffle: http://img227.exs.cx/img227/8438/pimp4tq.gif

i have long hair, longer than most, and i thoroughly enjoy it. i can't go out without getting five compliments on my hair from random strangers, it's a great ice breaker. being a long haired guy i'd have to vote yes on long hair, but keep it clean, and unless you're black, under no circumstances are dreadlocks cool. and if they're rasta dreads.... under no circumstances whatsoever are they cool. heh

I think it depends on the guy, I had long hari and women seemed to love it (well, just above shoulder length, but still it was long for me)... It suits some, but not all men to have long hair :)

I personally don't like long hair on MYSELF (I am female and have been bald on a number of occasions.) Long hair on men or women I think is a personal choice. If it's well taken-care of, any hair looks good, whatever length.

I have to admit I really hate it when hair long or short looks greasy and unkempt. I also can't stand it when a balding man keeps a fringe of long hair and nothing on top -- I'd just go bald at that point, I think. The "comb-over" isn't much better, but I guess it's better than the fringe.

It's entirely possible to be a grunge rocker that washes his hair. :p

my thoughts are 'i don't care' - if a dude wants long hair i'm not gonna pass judgement on it. unless it looks really awful, but thats out of kindness ;)
i'm a long haired dude, i wash and condition every day, give it a thorough brusing too (does that count as 'taking care of it'? )

I don't think that your ex should have to cut his hair. Many men have long hair and it can be very beautiful. It should be well-kept though. There are many guys who are on NS that have long hair including Pure Metal and Legless Pirates (both who have pics). Their hair s beautiful, not unkept. Mens' long hair is a reflection of who they are personality wise, and gives them a sense of self. :)

I've had long hair for about 2-3 years now and most agree that it looks pretty damn good on me. It is necessary to take constant care of it though and that can be a pain.

My ultra-thick, natural blonde, long hair is perfect for me. And since I bathe every day (who the hell wouldn't?), it's not a bit of a problem. I've gotten used to taking longer in the shower, as well as with the towel and the hair dryer.

Long hair is king with me.

Edit: I never, ever "keep" my hair. Brushes and combs... Who needs them? Not me. My hair looks superb when it isn't "kept". I think that combing and brushing ruins the natural look of the hair, so I just never do it. Besides, I like the puffy/frizzy look and feel after I shower.

Actually many hairdressers have told me that washing your hair every day harms it. Also, the hairstylist on Queer Eye said that most hair looks much better 1 day after washing. And the queers, they KNOW :)

I'm a guy with long hair - I started growing it out about a year and a half ago, and it's down to about my shoulderblades now. I tie it back to keep it out of the way (and yes, I do wash it daily - it takes about four hours to dry properly).

As for whether or not it's attractive, I'd have to say it depends upon your body type (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Body_types). On ectomorphs, I think it suits some people - I certainly think it suits me! Mesomorphs and endomorphs would be less likely to look good with long hair, I think (although I can't be certain, of course).

And as for dreadlocks, I've seen precisely one person on whom they look good. There seems to be a trend, at least in New Zealand, towards ugly shoulder-length congealed mats of hair - it looks horrible!

That's funny, because whenever I ask any barbers/stylists around here (Houston), they say that washing your hair every day keeps it healthier. They also tell me that greasy hair can make you break out on your head (which has happened to me), and that it can really damage the scalp.

Washing your hair everyday can be a bad thing. It can dry your hair out. If you're a person who is athletic and sweats everyday, you can wash everyday, no problem. In fact, some sweat is very good for your hair. What you don't want to do is wash your hair before you go to bed, that can cause your hair to break (more breakage than you'd have doing other things). Of course, you should try not to wash your hair too much if you have dandriff.

Heh, depends on the schools, I guess. I, for one, have extremely thick hair and it looks extremely puffy and fragile if I wash it every day.

I'm plenty athletic, and I don't shower before I sleep. I shower in the morning, and yeah, the grease/sweat does keep my hair healthier. But if I skip a day, it's bad. Very bad. My hair starts to shed more (note that I said shed, not fall out), and I begin to break out.

Oh, and I'm a Mesomorph, and I look much better with long hair than I do with short hair :D.

Ok, this is the first time I think i've posted to the forums, so I'm paranoid I've done something wrong and will look ignorant. But anyway, my brother (who turned thirteen two days ago) has long hair, and it looks absolutely terrible on him. He's a bit chubby, and wears glasses, and with his long, puffy hair (that he doesn't even keep very clean), he looks very much like a girl. Everyone agrees that he should cut it, but nobody will force him to do it because we're all too liberal.
