Im sure you have all heard of the Jabberwock in Lewis Carrol peom Jabberwocky. For one of the classes I teach I am gonna us this peom and have them act it out. I am also asking them to draw what they think the Jabberwock looks like. Soooo I thought I would callenge some of NSers more artisic ones to draw a picture of the Jabberwock. It can be drawn anyway you find more comfortable. I know which already exsist on the web, SO DON'T USE THEM!

Now get to it! AND HAVE FUN TOO!

I've performed it, it makes a wonderful monologue with a prop or two - but I wouldn't bother actually trying to depict the Jabberwock - I just relied on bombastic delivery and a well-practiced Scots burr.

Kinda defeats the purpose of the poem, though, doesn't it? The Jabberwock is an unreal beast, it's up to the reader to imagine what it looks like. By making an actual Jabberwock, you're robbing the audience of their imagination, which would make the Jabberwock a far more impressive thing than any amount of papier-mache and poster paint'll ever do...

I'm directing a staged reading of a play(in as much as you can direct a staged reading) called Jaberwocky that goes up tonight, as it turns out.

Though it doesn't have a Jaberwocky in it. Or anything else related to the poem...more that a character reads the poem and manages to unravel the cosmos. I didn't write it....

Hopefully. Really, I just hope people get it. The playwright needs to spend some time with this play. I think that's the feedback he's going to get tonight. The trick is if he's able to take it.

I just watched Jaberwocky (Terry Gilliam directs it w/Michael Palin and Terry Jones in it) yesterday... Pretty good film... They had the Jaberwock in it, it looked pretty Dragonesque to me

sure

"Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:
Long time the manxome foe he sought --
So rested he by the Tumtum tree,
And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,
The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,
Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'
He chortled in his joy.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe.
