i have a seminar on monday on a subject i have no clue about. i have the books to do the research needed, but i've been selectively reading them for hours now and have found nothing at all relavent. i may have to do a presentation on my resarch (won't know till i get there).

so what should i do? i could skip the class alltogether, but i skipped it last week (similar reasons...i hate this module...), and get 5% knocked off my final mark for every class i skip.

i could just keep at it and do the work, even if i have to work through the night to do it.
i could just not do the work and turn up, and dont give a fuck what the tutor (evil, sadistic bitch) says/thinks.
i could show up and whimper, hoping not to get asked anything.
or i could show up and tell her to fucking shove european integration up her ass.

please decide.... (poll coming)

Disguise yourself as the cleaner, so you can attend the seminar and thus receive the educational benefits of it, but not get asked any questions.

Do your work, or ar least attempt to. I usually take the moral highground though, so you may just want to forget about me. Im also gonna become a teacher so another reason to forget me.

Do the courageous thing ... slog through the work and respond in class as best you can. :)

Sneak in at night, plant a bug in a cleverly placed apple and then listen to the seminar from a flower delivery van parked outside...or do the work.

Is this the kind of class that you could conceivably bullshit your way through or do you have to memorise things like statistics, which can't really be made up on the spot?

If you want to get your degree, do the work and quit carping. If you don't give a damn about the degree, go out and get drunk, fail the course, drop out of school, get a job, and quit your carping.

Go to the class and make a presentation like someone who knows everything about european integration. Remember, you're the one who'se supposed to know everything. This means no-one else's bothered to do any research. If someone tries to say something you don't know, say that you remember this stuff from a book so it's got to be true, but sadly you don't remember the book's name.
This is how I got through my religion course. The bitch gave me only 9 from the whole course although I scored 10 from the exam. Must be because of all that small-talk on aliens and such I went through with my pal.

Just be honest and turn up and say to the tutor "look, I don't really know anything about this topic, perhaps you could enlighten me". I found at uni that this approach works and you may genuinly learn something from the seminar. If the tutor goes in a strop with you then that's their problem as you should remind them that their role is to eductate you the student.

PS: Take a gun with you in case things get out of control...

It's history, make shit up from what you started to read and add details from an "unkown author"(yourself) if it fails just chant U.S.A! U.S.A! U.S.A! she will be so confused she'll have to give you an A

The role of the educator is not to educate but to provide the means for the individual to become educated. If the student is to be educated, the student must take the responsibility to do the work.

WTF - you are a college student - do what you are supposed to do - you are there afterall to learn how to BS your way through these situations.

Let me asssist;

rule 1 - If you don't know what's going on, smile and act like you do. Often ths results in you being put in charge. Then you delegate the work to someone else.

rule 2 - If you must speak about something you don't know, use it as a segue into something you do know. Discuss it at length and with confidence. Use lots of entertaining stories and examples. If someone calls you on it, pretend like you got sidetracked, then do it again.

rule 3 - When someone asks you a question you don't know the answer to respond "That's a GREAT question! I really haven't been asked that before! You are very astute to consider that. I think I know the answer, but I want to check my sources. Let me get back to you on that tomorrow." Then hope they forget they asked.

Just remember, this is a skill, not an assignment. You must practice this before you can pull it of convincingly. Practice it on members of the opposite sex, police, teachers and anyone else who won't tell you to shut up - or who you don't care if they do.

good luck!

Go for it. Try and do it and if you don't understand.. thats what tutorials are for.

Although the teacher might slag you for being an idiot, your fellow classmates think your a buffoon, but hey, your paying for your education.. if you don't learn it, your wasting your money. You paid for it, make good use of it. Keep on asking the same question over and over again till you get it.

If you don't learn now, your going to fail and going to retake it again next sem. At least try and pass.

"Since 1991 Spain has been a retarding factor in European Integration. Discuss"

Sub-questions:

"Name one policy area in which Spain refused during the Nice Treaty negotiations to concede to the use of QMV."

"Name three policy areas to which Spain has traditionally attached great importance"

... there are 4 more similar sub-questions.

it looks relatively simple, but the books i have are all in faaar too much detail - even quoting and analysing memos and meetings between top players in european integration - about the negotiations of a treaty, but only briefly mention the outcomes or anything greatly relavent. that, plus all the books seem to miss out a gap between 1992 and 1999 :headbang:
oh and that plus, in all the negotiations i have combed through none of them really show spain to be a 'retarding force' either!

gah, its 4.40am, i need bedness... will grudgingly work on it tomorrow. expect me to be either miserable or angry tomorrow ;)

Sounds like your screwed.. But just go for it man. You might get battering. But at least you'll learn something from it.. maybe get answers if your teacher is nice enough.

And when you get the answers.. better catch up on your work. Pull your socks up man! :)
