None of those.

Instead, people will see the new light of wisdom, and worship the almighty LIMECAT (http://limecat.net)! Only people who hark unto the wisdom of the almighty LIMECAT shall be saved!

Ahem...

Seriously; I don't know. I expect that the balance will remain pretty much as is.

Eventually religions will disappear, since they have already lost significance in the world. If a religion would prevail though, I think it would be buddhism or whatever religion the chinese have. I think they have various i.e. daoism, confucionism and others.

My hope...that the Unitarian Universalist church does. They support all world religions as being potentially correct (even athiests). They recognize that basically all world religions teach the same things - peace, love, tolerance, honesty. If people would actually listen to the message, instead of nitpicking the phrases from the books, they might see that too...

I don't personally know what their stance is on things like satanism. On principle, I would assume they would accept one in. However, if the satanist really wasn't into the peace and love thing... they wouldn't last long and would leave the group.

So basically, that's my vote. The UU Church.

Problem with this question: Causal Diaspora (aka Butterfly Effect) - the concept that minor changes now can effect massive changes down the road.

On these grounds:

What I HOPE for is myriad non-confrontational sects gravitating around a central theory of brotherhood et al. and representing various well-contemplated hypotheses on differences with respect to the supernatural.

What I expect? I can't even call that past five years, let alone two hundred.

its obviously going to be catholicism well, "christianity." various reasons including the fact that its the singal most popuylar religion in the world, and still rages a fruitless war with accepted scientific proof, such as calling evolution a theory. you just cant lose with that kind of willpower and lunacy.
although... the russian economy is growing back up and i hear they are soon going to reopen their borders to immigrants.

oh well for now its all up for grabs. I would rather have everyone run into their homes and invent their own religious beliefs and deities over night and realize how pointless it is. then forget the whole thing by tomorrow.

You don't understand. Christian faith is completely rational when compared to the lunacy that is TimeCube (http://www.timecube.com). Everything else must fall before it, because no one could possibly be more sure of themselves then whomever created that beast.

The only thing growing faster than Islam is Pentacostal Christianity. It has gone from a few hundred people at the beginning fo the 20th century to a few hundred million. The projections indicate over a billion Pentacostals by 2050. That's more Pentacostals than Hindus. There are already more Pentacostals than Buddhists. Think of it. Just one sect of Christianity is rivaling Islam. Just today I was reading some news about a Pentacostal move in Iran. People are beoming Christians by the thousands. That's the new paradigm.

Hopefully the days of domination are over and people are smart enough to live their lives without succumbing to some self-declared messiah.

I think the most likely of those four would have to be Buddhism. I think that after all this post-modern stuff blows over, we're gonna go back into a second enlightenment, and that, to me, means Buddhism. But I'd hope for atheism so that we can all have a fresh and logical start.

Well if you want to look at it that way. Christians have a corner on the market. Muslims are very conservative and wait to have children when married. Its a big sin in islam to have an child out of wedlock. Christians use to be that way. But now it doesnt seem to matter. But the Christian religion is declining so says the link above.

possibly some descendent of post-modernism; and after that, maybe some evangelical form of hinduism that has yet to be born.

In developed countries people have premarital sex but that doesn't mean people are having many kids. Contraception is widely practiced in USA, Europe, and other more affluent places. In Christian Africa and the Islamic Middle East, people get married before having sex but they also have enormous families. The highest birth rates in the world occur in Islamic countries and many Christian African countries.

Well another good point. My wifes family is a good example. She is from Morroco. Her grandmothers had 11 and 6 respectively. But there birth rate is going down alot in Morocco. Due to modernization I think.

if current numbers in industrialized nations are accurate, then secularism will dominate the world as the largest "religious orientation." secularism is the fastest growing religious orientation in modern nations, far outstripping the growth rates of any of the religious groups.

though i suppose it depends on how you define "dominate." it appears that secularism will dominate in developed, educated countries, but people in developed, educated countries tend not to breed like rabbits. i'm sure there will always be more stupid people in the world than smart people, but the smart people will always be the ones to "dominate" the world.

While I may not like it, I do believe that in our lifetime organized religion will dwindle into a mere curiousity.

I still plan to practice though...just because I think religion in the hands of the right person can do alot of good.

No religion will be dominant.

Sadly, all religions splinter and the various factions break away from the main thread. The in-fighting between religious group (eg Catholics Vs Protestants, Traditionalist Vs Modernists) will drive people without a firm religious belief towards atheism.

In a hundred years time there will be several thousand different denominations.

I think we're actually involved in something like the Lutheran Reformation, except in Islam, and with some outside help. The Islamic fundamentalists ("papists") are getting hammered by the liberal Muslims ("protestants") with major help from the US. This is a very good thing. It takes time though.

Actually it will be the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints that prevails in the end.
We have the Temples. Can they say the same? We have Prophets for revelation can any of them say the same. We have the High Presthood, can they say the same.
We have Baptism of the dead. We gain followers ether you do it while alive or dead :)

Has anybody mentioned Oprahism yet? Its a fast growing religion. Members are very loyal. If their Living God-Queen, Oprah reccomends a book, it jumps to the top of the bestseller lists in just a couple days. When she says jump her followers only ask "how high, Oprah?"

Saying what religion will dominate is kind of an irrelevant question. In the future religion will either disappear or become kind of like an underground sect while technology basically takes over religion.
