Australian intelligence or foolishness?

John Howard, the Australian Prime Minister (or Fuhrer), has committed 450 MORE troops to Iraq while everyone is taking troops out after 2 years of "peacekeeping". The way things are going, it seems the Axis of the Willing will be the only ones left with troops in Iraq.

The 450 troops are supposed to protect Japanese engineers in Southern Iraq and most will come from my home town Darwin. The Japanese bombed Darwin during World War II as an interesting fact.

Well I was against this whole war business from the start so it gets a thumbs down from me.
And didn't he promise that no more troops would leave? But I'm sure he'll find a way to wiggle out of blame. Slimeball.

If Howard's political clique may be likened to a compost heap, and I think they can, than he is the biggest weed growing out of it.

(with apologies to Rowan Atkinson; great comedian, very smart man)

The only thing that surprises me about this is that he hasn't done it sooner.

You can't win elections saying "I'm going to send your fathers, son, daughters or mothers to Iraq the bottomless pit to die ..."

Well, the nips aren't the problem nowadays, just the Indonesian Jihadists living north of Australia.

Americans are patriotic to extremes while apathy rules Australia. Most Australians don't go kissing flags or regard flag flying as important. America was born in a war while Australia was not. Our stupid apathy allowed Little Johnny to get into power for the 4th term because the economy is good (unlike the bankrupt US) and he bribed the public.

Howards foreign interventions
* Solomon's Islands (peacekeeping sorta)
* Afghanistan
* Iraq
* East Timor (UN approved)

Can't argue with that... wait, yes I can.

I contend that it was selfishness, and greed, rather than apathy that got him back in. Oh, and becuase there's so much wool in the heads of Australians now that anyone can pull it over our eyes.

I hear so many people saying they'll vote Liberal because "they're good for business." Um, so fucking what? What does that have to do with your everyday life, the myriad of other things that make up our world. It's so narrowminded.

Not that Labor is much better.

Yes, I have to agree. The few like me simply can't understand it. :confused:

The biggest problem with this thread is that I agree with both Jerusalem and Preebles.

US federalism is taking over. Howard is going to reform workplace relations to be employer-friendly (lower wages?) and our social security system to even less people are covered (to save lots of $$$). The abort debate is back and our immigration system isn't different to a refugee concentration camps system.

Which is why he said "If you vote for the other guy, the economy will crash and burn, and all the terrorists will start blowing us up."

Not that our politicians have any effect on our economy whatsoever, or have Johnny's actions done anything to help us not get attacked.

And of course the other guy is now out of the main political arena anyway... so voting for the Labour Party would have been interesting.

Personally, I'm happy that the Greens are taking the position previously held by the Democrats.

Howard went into the election saying "Interest rates will rise under Labour".
Guess what? They are going to rise anyway, which was what most economists were saying.

I feel for home owners with huge home loan debts as the sting in the tail is now coming.

Go Green and not Red, White and Blue

lol... I think the current going statistic is that I'm more likely to be attacked by a terrorist than win lotto, isn't it?
