Well... looks like I need some music...

I've been going through my collection of CDs lately, only to find that I really don't have one--I've got about 10 CDs, most of which are Green Day. This makes me feel sad. I love Green Day, but I just can't listen to it so often, I'm gonna make myself tired of it, and that would be horrible. :(

I need suggestions for bands. If anyone knows of something that might appeal to a Green Day fan, please, speak up! You might just get a fluffle. ;)

Seriously, here. I need help. All I've got is the Green Day albums, Between the Never and the Now by Vendetta Red, and three Nirvana albums. I've been deprived! I had to sneak almost all my CDs past my parents, they're music nazis.

What? they wont let you listen to greenday? Whats wrong with greenday? If they didnt let you listen to Korn or Marilyn Manson I could understand... but greenday? They really are nazis... lol

So what type of music do you like? I can only offer you heavy metal and progressive rock bands...

Heh, sorry, but if your parents are strict about you listening to Green Day, then there's no way they'll approve you listening to the kind of music I like.

Agh, sorry for the delay, my computer isn't liking me.

I don't know what's wrong with Green Day, they're just insane. You weren't there when they actually saw what they looked like... following that were a stream of questions, such as, "Are they that thing called 'hard rock'? Are they goth?! Are they druggies?! DO THEY USE VULGAR LANGUAGE IN THEIR MUSIC?!?!?!"

No, no--I am not exaggerating.

Well, because of the music nazi-ing, I don't really know about that much music, all of my stuff has come randomly from friends. Green Day is my absolute favorite, so I guess that means I like punk rock. Vendetta Red is okay, not great, but okay. Same with Nirvana. OH--I like Queen and Led Zeppelin (I think--a friend gave me a mix CD and said some of their stuff was on it... *shrugs*)

I really can't give you any more than that... but, the good news is that I can learn to like most music, so probably anything you suggest is good.

Yes, I'm quite capable of that. Of course, I need to find an excuse to go shopping for the third time this week (just to clarify, this isn't normal for me, the last time I went shopping was November), and then come back with some evidence of shopping. And then explain why a t-shirt costs $70 at Ross while managing to keep about 5 new CDs out of sight in my 7 in. square purse.

But I've gotten good at these things.

That would be great, except that there are about 20 different problems with that. Biggest one is that I have the slowest dial-up connection you have ever seen, and it takes four hours for an entire album to transfer, and I like to have more than just a couple songs, so that I get a better idea of what the music is like. And, heh, I just need a couple suggestions, there's no way I could get all that stuff. :p

and i will give you suggestions... but i have to ask one more question. what kind of things do you want to hear? do you want to hear yelling? acoustic? deep lyrics?

Yeah... classical is a no. I'm sick and tired of it, my parents were those type of people that made me listen to that stuff since I was in the womb. Also, a band I would suggest would be Dry Cell. They're an incredible band with similar stylistics to Green Day.

Maybe it's just because I've been listening to their discography for the last 5 hours, but I suggest Nine Inch Nails.

Err...Nothing like Green Day, being industrial. I doubt any music-nazi parents would appreciate it, either. But it's awfully good, anyways.

Damnit, you should have said that before! If you know what a Green Day fan would like, the speak up, for god's sake!

Like I said, there's more than one problem with me getting music over AIM. Too many to go into detail about.

I don't really know what I want to hear. I know I like a good singing voice--the reason I'm not too crazy about Nirvana is because Cobain sounds like he's constantly being strangled. So, yes... what do you think a Green Day fan would like?

I also recommend Queens of the Stone Age, but they're a little different. And their music is kinda drugged.

REEL BIG FISH, Daft Punk, Digable Planets, Cake, Save Ferris, Veruca Salt...

You should point out to your parents that Beethoven was banned for a time (for get where, Britain I think) for being "morally corrupting" :p

Velvet Underground are absolutley brilliant imo.
So are Queens of the Stone Age. As well as a few other bands mentioned (actually, all the ones mentioned rock).

Also try and find some Misfits stuff, Mission of Burma are cool too. Joy Division are awesome too. New Order are good to, but I'm notsure if their music will appeal to you. Also check out Tsunami Bomb, not a far cry away from Greenday imo.

If they haven't been mentioned already:
'The Buzzcocks', and 'Stiff Little Fingers'.
Then you'll get to hear who Greenday ripped pretty much their entire sound off.
Also try 'The Clash', and 'The Jam', for great punk music. And one band I had forgotten about until recently, 'Magazine' (One of their songs just popped into my head the other day - weird how that happens). Their best album was "Rays and Hail". Shot by both sides, The light pours out of me and The Motorcade are awesome songs.
I also like Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin), but that's mainly because it doesn't make sense until you say out loud.

For something a little newer, and American, try 'The Pixies'.

Well what you should do it beat your parents at their own game. If they forced you to listen to classical music and dont want you to listen to anything else, then get some 20th century classical stuff. Like pendereski or shoenberg. Its worse than the most extreme black metal, that'll show them.
