Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have just heard that the Pope is in Surgery. He is expected to have a Tracheotomy.
May God have mercy on him and help him recover.
I don't like him, and I don't care for his ideas. However, from one human to another I hope he makes it though.

Now a polish official at the Vatican, not an official spokesman, has just come out and said that the Pope didn't have surgery.
WHICH IS IT??!!!!

The news say that doctors are considering it, but haven't made it yet. But since some time happens between the events and the reporting they may be performing it.
It's not complicated per se, but it will increase the risk of infection and other complications later.
BBC reckons it happened
Pope John Paul II has undergone surgery to help him breathe more easily, after being admitted to hospital with flu-related breathing problems. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/4296035.stm)
The man is frightfully old...why do they wait for one to die in order to name the new one? Seriously...let the guy retire!

Is the Pope supposed to suffer and die for our sins too or is God just pissed at him for something?

He could retire if he wanted to. He doesn't want to apparently.

Oh whoops. I accidentally created a thread on the same topic.
Anyway, the Pope is definately one very dedicated man. I don't know of many others who would stick to it like he's doing.

I have neverheardofthePope, any Pope, retiring.
They call it abdicating, the same as if a king or queen decided to quit. Six have done so.
Q.Have any Popes ever abdicated?
A. Yes. The following Popes have abdicated:
Marcellinus in 304 A.D.;
Liberius in 366 A.D.;
Benedict IX in 1045 A.D.;
Gregory VI in 1046 A.D.;
St. Celestine V in 1294 A.D.; and
Gregory XII in 1415 A.D.

Thank you for the information!
Needless to say however that it has been nearly 600 years since it was last done. Still fascinating to know though. Thanks :)
