When did "effort" become a verb?
Today, I was watching CNN and I heard the anchor say that they were efforting some correspondent. She meant they were trying to contact him but "efforting" was the way it came out.

So I wonder, have you been efforted today? Is it a public sort of thing? Is it good to be efforted? Exactly how does one effort another?

That's sick!
Efforting should only be done in private between two married members of opposite sexes. Otherwise it's an immoral perversion!

Wow. I don't know how I feel about this. Usually, CNN can't be bothered with verbs cause every sentence is just like a headline. So I'm not really surprised that they don't know what they are or how to use them. I'm either impressed that they're making the effort or disappointed that it's such a weak effort(ing).

Languages verb - it's nothing new. In English the result is a bit ambiguous, because there is no productive suffix to indicate that it's a verbed word, and the accusative case is missing, so that object is unmarked, too. You can "fish", but not "stupid language"? Maybe if it was "stupidify", it'd be less ambiguous.

If anybody needs me, I'll be in the living room, building effort out of cushions and hiding until doomsday.
