SVU, for the old-ish guy who wears the long coat and hat. I've only just started watching it recently, and I can't remember his name, though I really should.

That'd be Richard Belzer. He's from Bridgeport, CT, like me. :)

True, true. He's also the only actor on TV (besides Orbach!) that has played the same character in 5 different series. He also used to be a decent standup commedian back in the day.

I love how he interacts with Ice-T. Probably the best pairing on a TV cop show since Fish and Harris on Barney Miller!

Are you a Slashdotter?
Cause you included the classic "You insensitive clod!" option.
Is that from Slashdot, or did they swipe it from somebody else?

The original was very good, SVU was ok, and CI is bad. I hate to see what they do next.

Homicide owned all.

*picks up phone*

"Homicide"

1) Homicide: Life on The Street
2) Law and Order
3) Law and Order: SVU
4) NYPD Blue
5) Law and Order: Criminal Intent
6) CSI:NY
7) CSI: MIAMI
8 CSI: Las Vegas (I used to rate this at about 5th, but The latest series is iffy, in my opinion)

Did anyone see the four Law and Order/Homicide crossover episodes?

The Dialogue between Briscoe (Jerry Orbach) and Munch (Richard Belzer) was excellent.

RIP Jerry.

i hate law and order and all its incarnations SOOOOO MUCH

whenever the husband is watching a rerun during the day i end up ranting at the TV because the "good" guys will do anything to railroad the person they have decided is guilty.

I've watched more episodes of Kid Toucher's Unit. It's a pretty good show, but I don't watch regularly.

So I was watching CSI:NY on the LCD in my SUV while driving the BQE last night and it occurred to me that the show is the suxxors.

I'm aware that this is a bit of a tangent, but I like Law & Order a lot. I like Homicide a lot. I like the Law & Order spinoffs a lot less. And, after watching my first CSI:Anything yesterday, I've come to the conclusion that I like it even less. This was the new one with parallel plots about a kinky bondage murder and a dead longshoreman.

Here's my beef: These CSI programs are not really mysteries. Has anybody read about the "crime scene doll houses" used to train investigators? They're tiny little mock-ups of crime scenes and death rooms that contain enough visible evidence to draw certain conclusions about the crime (Harper's had a piece about them a while back). Anyway, it seemed like CSI is simply a studio recreation of these dollhouses. They lay a couple of the most grisly, most unusual killings out and then package them with some clumsily-incorporated background research and some gritty banter that's cliche before the cops spit it out. But the real meat of the show is making a spectacle of the grisly deaths. There's no way for a viewer to guess whodunnit because the evidence is linked so closely to the technical CSI procedures (which, at least in the case of last night, seem very forced) that a viewer cannot pick up a clue before the forensic specialist decodes and spells it out.

Anyway, am I missing something? It seems like this show is just riding the coattails of the Law & Order wave. Is there more to it?

I agree that CSI sucks. More Jerry Bruckheimer crap. Someone really should stop him from making movies and TV programs. His stuff is almost exclusively dumb, lowest common denominator, boring crap.

Not as far as I can see. I've watched four episodes, but gave up.
