When does RPing reach absurdity?

I've got nothing against it, but there is a point in which seems to be a bit too much to me. (poll coming)
It depends on who you are.

i'd vote for when you stop sleeping to RP (like I am now)

LARP is taking it too far, in my mind. I like my Dungeons and Dragons, and probably spend more time on it than I should, but dressing up just takes it too far.

I've never quite known for sure, but that's the best I can come up with.

So long as you don't forget that its all made up and don't let it take over your life, then you're fun.
If you don't keep in those guidelines, then it becomes a religion.

My answer is "in 3 weeks, 2 days, and 15 minutes". That's when it becomes absurd.

Cybersex is basically...
George gazes upon her sweet flower, craving its nector.
Georgette stares at him, then smacks him with the flower, "Are you gonna screw me or not!?"
:D
Just think of it as a textual version of phone sex or reading erotic literature, or watching a porn movie.
No better, no worse.
Unless you get the keys all sticky.
:(
(Of course, there's some really weird stuff out there, so it can actually be healthier to be doing it with text than for real.)

Was about to get uber-angry on your ass, but just noticed that you're from the USA. I've seen the pictures, i've heard the stories ( ).
I'm from the UK (must update profile), currently attending Maelstrom, and it's fantastic. Not just in my opinion, also many other more experienced peeps consider it so.
I could rant for longer, but i doubt the majority is interested. :D

I'll tell you this much, it's helpful when your relationship goes from living together to long distance within the space of a month. And actually, IMO, it's not as good as phone sex.

Anytime people compensate for a lack in love life in an RP, that is just ridiculous.

Good question.
Back in the 3DO days, I observed quite a bit of it.
Some where good. Many where not.
When it gets silly is when everybody is more or less a god and can't be hurt by anybody. Some of the most loved entities were basically punching bags.
The cybersex thing? Don't know.
Loosing sleep to RP? That's a good indicator.
It never reaches absurdity.
NEVER!!!!!

When you start treating those who aren't roleplaying as though they were.

When you start dressing the part and demanding to be referred to by your character's name. Nothing says Goober better than live-action RPing.

RPing == Unpaid bad acting.
It's all absurd, really.

I kinda think this but I'm trying to stay open minded here. ;)

True. I, of all people should realize this, as most of my conversations with my friends are incoherent babble to the rest of the world. I mean, I bet none of you know the meaning of 'Wa'. :D
