Ever notice how these groups never ever pay any attention to violence in kids' movies? Instead they focus on vague gay references that most children wouldn't understand anyway.

As for Shrek 2, I'm surprised they never mentioned the wolf... :)

Shrek 2 has plenty of company. Christian activists have also targeted SpongeBob SquarePants, Barney the dinosaur and Sesame Street's Bert & Ernie as children's characters who are conduits for a soft-on-gays message.

LOL nice silly people

Bah! So they are so concerned about the wellfare of children ay? Then stop attacking @#$% cartoons and go out and lobby for more funding for Family and Childrens services so that they can help feed and clothe the kids. How bout advocacy for children who suffer from abuse?? No....the REAL problem lies in Shrek and Spongebob.

We let them because they have freedom of speech. These movies and television shows, however, never get banned. Hell, Shrek is a multi-billion dollar marketing industry in the US ... there's no way the US would ban it.

Before Allah, Jesus, Vishnu, and before every imaginable prophet, the US worships money, was founded on the principles of money, and seeks only to officially stop that which would prevent the free-flow of cash in the US.

Incidently, that's one of the reasons it sucks to be poor in the US. In poorer countries, it's not so bad cuz everyone else is poor. In the US, even though the vast majority is, in fact, poorer than many third-world country's citizens, poverty in the US comes with a stigma of "laziness" and "lack of ambition".

We need a good "eat the rich" uprising.

It HAS to be.
The only way that this type of attitude can be ridiculed out of existence is if people know about it. It would be much more worrying if we discovered that Shrek 2 had been banned after the fact due to silent lobbying.

Oh and by the way, it is not about Shrek 2 but, still in the news Dutch intolerance rising (http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/08/07/1091732148054.html?from=storylhs&oneclick=true)

Well now, George W. Bush lets them, and he has been appointing people left and right in high places that agree with him, so yeah, he is slowly converting America into an Anti-American... world. And I say world, because he believes he is in control of the world as of right now (hence the war in Iraq, and soon to be Iran, then North Korea, then Canada).

But after he is out of office, chances of getting a nut job as big as Bush again, is slim to none, so the country should return to normal soon after. Hopefully.

I think that, if you let it get in the news, the number of supporters will increase greatly. People who just never thought about it. People who get persuaded by their arguments, even if slightly so. Ignore it. Silent lobbying happens either way.

Meh. We kinda discussed this sort of thing at "debriefing", where a bunch of us get together after church for lunch and discuss the sermon. We talked about the "crazies" and our frustration that we don't have any influence over them. It's also frustrating that the media gravitates toward these hyper-judgmental people, giving the impression that we're all like that.

I own a copy of Shrek and Shrek 2.

Too right. This is a group of 43000 ppl, out of 300 000 000. That's 0.014% of the US population. I'm sure you could find 43 000 ppl throughout the US who believe any sort of irrational thing. But that doesn't mean we should spend time and newsspace on reporting their opinions.
It's giving them an importance and legitimacy that they truly don't deserve. And will help keep them going, rather than just fading away into the insiginificant ether that they are.

Attacking cartoons is the latest "thing" among these groups. The music thing was already mentioned. Some of us older NS'ers remember the attacks on RPG's in the mid-eighties, and then the "poisonings" during Holoween.

I think my whole concern in all of this is just how they figure out cartoon characters and puppets can be gay. Is there a basement video of Bert suckin' off Ernie behind Hoopers? Did the bartender from Shrek 2 come hit on the guy's son who started this whole mess? Does Spongebob let Patrick give it to him up the poop-shoot?

I mean ... come on ... this kind of blatant and useless conjecture is stupid.

These same people will scream and cry and piss and moan if someone takes 1/2 a passage from the Bible and uses it to prove the Bible is evil, but they'll take 2 seconds from a 2 hour movie and use it as proof that something promotes a "homosexual agenda".

This sort of hypocrasy makes me want to vomit with rage.

"Shrek 2 is billed as harmless entertainment but contains subtle sexual messages"

But is it billed as a childrens cartoon ? Oh -- my bad, sorry - every cartoon that is not hentai must *of course* be aimed primarily at children *cough* Simpsons *cough*South park*cough*.

Of course Shrek contains adult references. That is its main targetgroup. The same is true for almost every fairytale for that matter. Little Red Riding Hood is porn ;) . Childeren can enjoy those stories too, but will miss most of the humour and references.
