Australia doubles troops in Iraq

Well, far from starting to withdraw so the new Iraqi government can start to walk on it's own two feet we are doubling the number of troops sent to Iraq. Is J. Ho anxious that we should actually loose a troop in combat? So far we've lost a civillian TV camera man at the start of the war (to an American bomb I'm told) and a a troop who was serving with the Poms on a British helicopter when it suffered mechanical problems and crashed. So if they really planned to start withdrawing troops by the end of the year, as some in government are saying, why have we just doubled the number of troops in Iraq? So when we withdraw half of them we will still have the same number in Iraq?

I don't know, I thought we started with 400, mostly in specialist positions (communications, air traffic control, land mine clearers et cetera)

I think that America cannot afford to make snide remarks about it allies. It has few enough political allies as it is.

BOTH of them!!??

You'll have to excuse us for being distracted from the war for oil, our troops are otherwise deployed in areas like the Solomon Islands, East Timor, Arche (plus the rest of Indonesia) and the like.

Thanks, I was really trying to make you laugh. If you didn't notice, it was not intended to be a joke. I'll add the sarcasm tags for everyone next time.

Well, we shouldn't be there in the first place...but we helped break it, so we should help fix it. It should be reconstruction aid rather than military support however.

Tsk, you might want to read up on our involvement in WW2, if you think Australia is so insignificant.
