Why do you prefer the words of hundreds of well educated, well qualified scientists who have spent years researching their subject have written hundreds of pages and have conducted hundreds of experiments and calculations into life?
Why do you not go to church, pay the tithe and take the word of old men wearing nice purple velvet and gold, paid for by the the tithe of course but who otherwise have nothing to gain by the promotion of their religion, to be true?
And why do you dismiss a book written two thousand years ago by men who saw a bearded guy fly up to heaven (not like that guy on speed down the road, his name's John not Jesus and Jesus never, ever took drugs) and who are not in the least bit homophobic, mysoginistic or racist?

I demand an answer! And remember, you're all going to hell you gay-loving atheists!

I've always said there's nothing an agnostic can't do if he really doesn't know whether he believes in anyhting or not.

well one day i sat down and did the calculation of that whole "144000 people getting into heaven" thing. i realized that either the spots are all already taken or the standards are SO high that st thomas aquinas may not get in let alone a common sinner like me.

so i cut my losses and became an atheist. all that extra sleep on sunday mornings has done my overall mood a world of good.

hmm... I was just thinking about this today. Here's what I came up with.
Given:
- no empirical evidence of God (because there is no scientific evidence AND most religions even state themselves that evidence isn't neccessary, as only faith is what's important.

- no empirical evidence denying the existence of god

Thus:
- One can assume something to be false or a metaphysical concept with no bearing on reality until proven otherwise. I fit in this catagory and thus believe god does not exist. This is a logical and rational option.

- One can assume everything unprovable to be true, even if contradictory to other unprovable things. Thus, the statements: All invisible magical chipmunks are green and all invisible magical chipmunks are not green are both true. This is rational, but not logical.

- One could also only assume some unprovable things to be true. Invisible chipmunks are green, but not invisible chipmunks are not green. Well, this is certainly allowed, but why would you believe in god but not the infinite other combinations of unprovable/falsifiable things that could or could not exist. Thus, while this route may be logical, it isn't rational.

Now, on a personal note, if there is a God, why would he/she/it make/allow me think in such a way as to never rationalize him/her/it. Free will? I don't play that. Can't rationalize god? I don't play that either. You may. I don't. Your god made me that way. Sorry.

Also, some may take the Kirkengaard arguement and say that you can't rationalize god. Well, if that's the case, I'll never find god, so what's it matter if I try or not.

Why do so many atheists feel a need to cram their beliefs down our throats? You do what works for you, and I'll do what works for me. If I don't try to convert you, do me the same service. God, you people act so much like a religion, sometimes I wonder why you don't just build a church and get on with it. STOP FLAMING PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY BELIEVE THIS STUFF! Atheists dont knock on your door at 7:00 am, wondering if they can come in and talk you about the lack of God.

Now on to the real business.

There is no God for the following reasons:

Christians believe that man was created in God's image.
Now they would like to believe that means that God looks like us, but thats not what that saying probably means.

The truth is that the "Created in God's image" means that God is stupid,petty, angry, selfish, crude, hateful, and above all frightened.

Because thats exactly how people are.

Look at the world around you.
So much hate, so much blatant, stinking ignorance, that it chokes the very air.
You have nations who have been killing each other for so long, that neither side remembers why they hated each other in the first place.
You have people who abuse their own children, or thier own spouse.
You have poweful world leaders who wage wars in the name of profit.
Major corporations who employ children to work like slaves in sweat shop conditions to make shirts that you and I wear, everyday.

So if we are truly created in God's image then God is just as stupid and petty as the rest of us, and cannot adhere to the christian ideals that created him...

...and therefore, does not exist.
