Obscure meaning?
Novosibiria

I've been asked a couple of times whether the name of my nation, Novosibiria, means 'New Siberia' and if so, why did I spell Siberia as Sibiria? Well, for the few of you that are curious, IT DOES NOT MEAN NEW SIBERIA! If I wanted it to mean 'New Siberia' I would of called it 'New Siberia' in english or some other language. Has anyone else been asked if they're nation name has some kind of obscure meaning, or any meaning at all?
Powerhungry Chipmunks

Naw, not often. I mean, sometimes, yes people ask me about why I chose this name, or accuse me of being untrustworthy because I'm "powerhungry". I usually don't take these too seriously. I guess I just have an unintersting name.

I'm not sure I believe you! I don't think I can trust someone called "Powerhungry Chipmunks"

But if it doesn't mean New Siberia, what does it mean? :p
No one asks about Cats Keep, I guess it's rather self explanatory.
An Powerhungry Chipmonks sounds like the name of a cat's snack...oh a hunting we will go, a hunting we will go... :D

i've once been accused of agreeing with someone just because they used the word "sacrosanct." strangely though, no one seems to notice that the "sacrosanct" in my name has an extra n. actually, i guess that's not strange, as it's a rather obscure word.

But it doesn't have a meaning... you know, like many nation names. For example, America; it came from the name of an Italian who, I believe, was named Vespucci Amerigo. I doubt there's a meaning behind that name.

It would seem it doesn't mean New Siberia, as that would be Novosibirsk...

After its foundation in 1893 and until 1926, Novosibirsk (pronounced nO-vo-see-bEErsk) was called Novonikolayevsk. Even if you do not know Russian, it is not difficult to guess the meanings of the two names. The original name refers to Nicolas II (Nikolay II Alexandrovich Romanov), the last Emperor and Sovereign of Russia the Great, the Little and the White, the Grand Duke of Finland, the Tsar of Poland etc etc etc. In 1926, "by the demand of the people", it was renamed. All the names of the revolutioners have alread been taken ;-), so that the name Novosibirsk ("New Siberia")
naturally came up.
I suspect it was intended to be Novosibirsk and misspelled. Whether it was accidental or by intentional is left up to the OP. If he wanted it to be Novosibirsk, then it would indeed was supposed to mean "New Siberia".

Nope. If you'd wanted that, you'd have called it Novosibirsk. (See above.)

Some silly person recently accused me of misspelling my "distiller" as my name.

Ah, okay, no it doesn't have to have a meaning, I was just wondering if it did.

lets see, the first part of your name means new in russian and the second part seems like it should be pronounced siberia and no one on the internet can spell... hmmm.
yeah people sure are dumb for thinking your name means new siberia.

also making up a thread to complain about people misinterpreting you name for your 5th post ever and your first on the general forum displays an almost pathological narcissism. why do you think this group of strangers wants to hear you whine about how people assume things about your name, a name virtually no one here knew.

Because some people aren't the greatest at knowing how to go about introducing themselves, and some people *cough*Nationalist Valhalla*cough* don't have any idea at how to respond nicely?

having done a bit of googling i've discovered that sibiria is actually a fairly common alternative spelling of siberia especially on russian web sites and since novo is russian for new i am forced to conclude that novosibiria does infact mean "new siberia" no matter what the nation by that name may wish to claim.

My nation name IS relatively obscure. But nobody has asked about it! Woe!
Trammwerk is the term Freud used to describe the part of the mind which created dreams - how it processed your concious and subconcious thoughts and turned them into dreams at night. It roughly translates to "Dream Factory."
I thought it was clever for a nation state... :(

Wow!
My nation's name is from a made up language I made and means beautiful land, not Lolita.

Apparently my name sounds like a brightly coloured moss, and I was asked if I was Georgian (the country, not the state).

Obviously some strangers care enough to do some research on google. If you didn't want to hear about it why did you research and spend time on this issue? You're not making sense.
Grow up, Valhalla. With a name like Nationalist Valhalla, who really suffers from narcissism? What I mean is, I'm being called a narcissist by a nation who, through their very own name, is inflating themselves with a sense of grandeur and pride. Complain about something worthy of complaining of. There are many other, more serious, issues on NS to complain about, yet when a nation tries to make sure it is known that there is no intended meaning behind it's name, you go to extreme lengths to insult or depreciate them on these forums. Hmph. I was also wondering if any other nation had similar problems or instances regarding their name. Why does that merit any kind of reprisal in any form?
I have, but not here. On another board, a random Japanese person asked my why I named my country that. I still hav't figured out what it means....

The spelling for this term that I learned in a psychology course I took was "trammwerk." Just "trammwerk." I don't know much German, fellow.
