Bush visiting Germany coming Wednesday - He'll visit a ghost town

Nobody wants him in Germany, but he's coming anyway, so he'll visit an almost dead town. 900 gullies will be welded shut, people are not allowed to leave their houses, American (!) sharp shooters on just about all roofs, highways are being closed in a large area around Mainz, Rhein-Main ship traffic is being cancelled (that's the largest river in Germany), most (if not all) shops in the city will close and suffer losses in the double-digit millions of Euros, large protests are planned for Tuesday and Wednesday.
We'll make sure he has an unpleasant time while in Germany. I wonder why a simple phone call doesn't suffice, but nooo, Bush has to come with his 300-man circus of personal assistants and whatnot. Not welcome Mr. Bush! (http://www.notwelcomebush.de/)

No. he's visting a town which he chose for it's "cozy atmosphere". But due to him, it will be a town frozen due to the oppressive security measures. It'll cause congestion of all highways around Frankfurt/Main and other cities around there due to rather long shutdowns of major highways or parts thereof in the area.
They probably avoided Berlin due to Berlin being our capital and thus having a much higher potential for violent protests with the few million people living there.

Yeah, like we need that *cough* most *cough* successful *cough* trade *cough* nation *cough* for *cough* years.
Anyway, I think it´s pretty cool he shows up here. Sure, Mr. Bush is a bit of a ass-clown, but so what? He´s still the President of the US of A, a country most people here - despite what is portrayed - like a lot (just don´t listen to the crap the "young crowd" throws at him, they´ll grow up one day ;) ).
The security precautions seem to be a bit excessive, but this ain´t a regular state visit, it´s more like a greet-and-meet goodwill "We love you too" tour. A lot of things changed since 9/ 11 (paranoia anyone?), but this does seem to be a bit excessive.

I've not seen this sort of waste of tax money for any other leading politician. If the leader of the country that claims to be the freest and most democratic nation in the world, has to fear for his life so much, then maybe he should stay in the US and people should go to him if they want something from him. I'm sure there will be a few roadblocks and quite a bit of inconvenience. That's just the way these visits are. When the G-8 held their meeting in Brunswick, GA, the island was indeed sealed off. The residents were allowed to leave or stay, but not go back and forth once the G-8 leaders arrived. If we can lock down an island, why can't the Germans get used to the idea of locking down a single town?

A lot of them did. Yeah.

Would you go back to your Prince who SOLD you to the freaking British Royals if you could stay in a place far away and start things over?

I don't know much about Germany, except that my father-in-law was stationed near Garmish during the Korean war. He liked the area, although he is from Alabama, so his standards are a little lower than what we have, here in Georgia. I did spend four hours in Frankfort changing planes from India and the people in the Delta Crown Room were nice. My family emigrated way back when, probably not Hessians, more like the early 1800's.

We elect our "representatives" so that's just the same kind of democracy the Americans have. But it's not the real kind of democracy as ancient Athens had it.

I'm starting to see your problem. You expect your representatives to bow to whatever popular idea is in favor at the time. We expect ours to stand fast and govern. Unfortunately, they don't do a very good job of that.

I'd be content with rotten eggs. Those smell worse and are easier to throw. Unfortunately, it's not possible to line up at the roads.

If someone is to afraid to go somewhere without such measures, they should just remain home IMO.
Like the Yankee telling my dad was crazy when he went to Washington DC and supposelly walk in a place where white man can be skinned alive, *shrug*. The main problem is the attitude you take, he meet only nice (black) folks in the streets where he took his evening walk. But the next day, every yankee at the office where telling him he was nut and this could have been extremely dangerous.
Empathy and attitude matter a lot. Personnally, I would live in a ghetto if I would move there, rather then live with a landlord who is proudly showing his guns. Some peoples would say I am crazy, *shrug*, I dont believe them and will just do it. :)

Bush will be in Brussels on the 22nd.
So will I.
It has to be one of the worst coincidences in my life. I have to be there, in the AB concert hall to see The Mars Volta. I bought the ticket in december, and the gig sold out shortly after. At that time I was unaware of the visit.
You can't take your car into the center of Brussels, so I will have to take the train, which I hope will not be too full of protesters and commuters. There will probably be barricades everywhere. I don't want to get stuck in a demonstration. I guess it would be really cool to see, but I'd rather not get caught up in a tear gas cloud or miss the concert.
You see, I don't go out that much,( even though I'm a student in my early 20's, mobile and not poor). This is only the third time in my life I am actually going to a real concert, in Brussels, and guess who decides to show up and mess up my planning?
Now it's personal.
Not Welcome Mr Bush?
Who gives a shit about Germany, anyway? Isn't this the "caring" nation who consistently tries to screw Israel, after murding X million Jews in the Holocaust?
Why don't the elitist pricks in Europe and their pathetic college-student Socialist atheist backers start putting their money where their mouth is and foot the bill for the problems in Africa and Asia - that they started through colonization.
Europeans are a bunch of useless whiners. The only time they're not killing eachother, they blame all the worlds problems on someone else.
Has any noticed america was colonised by europeans? you guys are a bunch of elitist too so stop bitching over it you bastard and oh yeah did you notice that germany was under Nazi power at that time plus I can see some ideas that hitler had that bush jr has such as gays are sinners

Osama's 9/11: 3000 dead civilians
Bush's Invasion of Iraq: 15000 dead civilians (most conservative estimate)
Besides, Osama is just a terrorist, Bush is a world leader. So that makes him alot more dangerous and influential

add that 3000 on 911 to Bushs tally--he knowingly allowed it to happen

I can't believe they're letting such an ass visit! The security measures kill the whole European commerce and trade, people can't get to work and we're going to be watched by doggone snipers. When most of Europe wants to see him dead, why are politicians sacrificing their reputation and popularity for his doomed attempt at rallying Europe? I wish I could think up a fool-proof assasination plan.

Any assassination plans would probably be hindered by the massive security measures. Bush knows that he's hated here, thus why they do all this. If he knew the people would welcome him with open arms and festivities, he'd not have to - in tyrannical fashion - get democratic rights stripped from the people just so he can have some security for a few hours. He's a tyrant and he wants to rally the politicians into following his course of endless crusades in the middle east. He will not get the people to follow him, because we can see through his lies.
