Where are the movies about ancient Rome?

The only recent movie about ancient Rome that comes to mind is Gladiator. Everything else has been about the Greeks.

How about a movie following the campaign of Julius Caesar?

How about a movie about Hannibal's victories against Rome and finally his defeat at the hands of Scipio Africanus?

I just want a movie about ancient Rome; is that too hard to ask?

I seem to recall someone posting here recently that there were plans to make a movie about Hannibal. Although it was to star Vin Diesel as the man himself.

So it'll probably be utter crap, but you'll still get your movie.

Get yourself a copy of "I Claudius". A BBC miniseries done in the 70's. Absolutely superb. The books ("I Claudius" and "Claudius the God" by Robert Graves are equally brilliant). Speaking of books, read "The Twelve Ceasars" by Suetonius (translated by Robert Graves), which was written in 100AD, and details the lives of the Ceasars from Julius up to Domitan who came to power in 69AD ("The year of the four Ceasars"). Superb and often hilarious read.
Then there's "Ben Hur", "Cleopatra", "Titus", "Spartacus".

I just finished "Pride of Carthage" by David Anthony Durham.

Get it. Read it. Make it into a screenplay. Now.

How about...Arthur?
Well, that one sucked to.
So yeah, the only GOOD Roman movie was Gladiator...

Anyway, they made about 100,000 of them back in the early 20th, black and white stuff along the same lines as Ben-Hur, lots of stereotype Romans-fighting-Evil-Arab-Guys, or Catheginians, or Celts...not so much in the way of Celts though...
You see alot of the clips on the History Channel :P

Go to the video store and rent either Augustus or Julius Caesar, they're both on DVD and are OK (you can't fit everything accuratly into one film).

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum

There are lots out there from the 50s-60s that deal with Christians being persecuted. But as mentioned before, not many recent ones.

Ahahahahaha, Forum is such a funny musical.

The line where the servant hops up and is all like, "Kiss me! Kiss me, somebody!" after he drinks the love potion has helped many a man get laid.
