Hello I am writing a manga, I would like people to please respond to how this phrase sounds...

(this phrase is copy righted)
"My beautiful angel...why don't you rest your wings?"

It's supposed to be said by an unknown voice. How does it sound?

I like it if that counts for anything. I think it flows nicely and provokes thoughts and images in ones mind.

1) It's not generally considered Manga outside of Japan unless you made it in Japan and are Japanese. Ameri-Manga is a popular term, however, for Japanese-style graphic novels done outside of Japan.

2) I realize that Manga and Anime are full of cliches like that, but that's a really really blatant one. In general, the angel motif is really overdone lately. Say no to tenchi!

Yes, only a select few mangaka can actually write manga. They all meet regularly in a secret room of a tall building in Tokyo where they sit around a sort of circular table and plan out how get more fanservice into their manga.

However, we socialists have been working on a plan to take control of, or at least gain a piece of, the manga industry to harness its immense potential that is being wasted by capitalists. We also want to avenge the theft of socialist concepts like absurdism and existentialism by Gainax.

The word is tenshi, actually, and yes, no angels. Everyone from Hideaki Anno to Moses has done angels. No more angels.

I'm also writing a manga, a socialist manga called Terra Pvlchra: Red Manga. It's about an anarchist utopia that fights tentacle demons and authoritarians using orgone (from the theories of Wilhelm Reich) based devices and bioships.

Eh, and I've been toying with the idea of a Gundam SEED fanfic involving "CoordiNaturals" (People w/mixed Natural, and Coordinator genetic makeup) - Thumbs Up, or down for the idea?

I tried this about a year ago. Around ten minutes later, I discovered that I couldn't draw.

Your phrase sounds good, and if angels are that cliched you could change it to some sort of bird, perhaps?

OK, I'm a little confused - I thought that 'Manga' was a major anime company, whereas 'anime' was the name for the Japanese cartoon genre....

Manga is basically a Japanese comic book, but in paperback form. Anime is just the Japanese word for animation, but it's come to mean any animation made in Japan.

Ok, yes I know angels are cliche, but she's not an angel per se. More of a ghost if you will. Like Angel Sancuary (that was the one with all the taboos right?), she has been thrown from the afterlife for her sins. In life she was hired during a war as a mercenary and she was driven insane by the carnage (it was her fist job ever) and killed many people in an insane drive. She is awakened every once in a while to repent for her sins, and this is the last time she will need to repent...

The word Manga (漫画) literally means "random or whimsical pictures".
Manga (MAHN-gah or MANG-ah)
n. - From the Japanese, literally meaning "whimsical pictures". Manga has its roots in early drawings done in the 1100's, and it has since then evolved into an art form that has encompassed a significant portion of the Japanese culture. The equivalent of "comic books" in Western culture, manga is intertwined with anime due to the fact that many popular manga series are transferred onto video or the TV screens as animated shows. Japanese comics are usually released in black and white, small volumes containing several stories. Artists who draw manga are often called "manga-ka" (literally, "comic artist").
ex. - I bought some really good Tenchi Muyo manga today.

She's not a crossdressing hermaphrodite in a pedophilic incestuous mortal's body, is she?

In general, angel imagery has been way overdone in anime, at least as far as I'm concerned. In general, I'm not a big fan of obvious repetition, so take it with salt.

Plot and the quote all sound familiar (And I'm rather certain I heard that 'let them dry' thing somewhere...). I make no accusations of plagerism, mind you, but osmosis can be a nasty thing. I actually tend to avoid over-reading my genres in hopes that it'll keep me from ending up cliche'd. I'd give examples, but, well, I plan to publish them eventually, so, heh.

My advice, if you don't already do so, read anything BUT anime and Japanese works. Let your ideas come from an outside source. I've been given ideas from such things as Moby-Dick, despite the fact that I DESPISE that book.

And if you're set on making something about angels/ghosts, I suggest reading lots of ancient mythology, and even things like Dante's Divine Comedy (The Inferno is a freacking Dungeons and Dragon's dungeon), but that's a tad too recognizable at the moment...

I've always held that it's better to define your genre than to be defined by it. But I also plan to change the (literary) world, so, eh, season to taste.

And I only have one, which I purchased only a short time ago, and have barely begun to translate it.

I still know a huge number of typical notions in manga, and have caught myself being influenced by them from time to time. Osmosis doesn't require ownership.

Just be careful you don't toss out "More of the same", unless you're spoofing (like in Gold Digger, best Ameri-manga out there).
