So I was talking with a guy who worked for Domino's...

Drat that Jolt - I lost my original. Here it is again:

I few years back, I was staying in L.A. for a week - not a lot of fun for someone who doesn't drive, I'll teel you.

Anyway, halfway through the week, I had a hankering for some Indian takeaway - but there was none to be had. I was staying in a hotel in a bad part of town, right across from MacArthur Park...even the concierge warned me about leaving the hotel at night. So, options: limited. Flipping through the phonebook, I found only one place that would even deliver to where I was staying - Domino's Pizza.

I had about a third of the 'za before turning in. The remainder I left on the bureau, in its' delivery box. The next day, I crossed paths with a former Domino's employee (not the most unbiased opinion, I'm sure) who told me that the pepperoni used at Domino's wasn't meat at all, but an edible-oil product...dyed red, extruded and flavoured to taste like meat. I scoffed. He relented. He told me, "look - go back to your hotel and take a close look at that pizza. The striations in the meat are identical. And they'll seem just as fresh as when it arrived, even a day later. Why? 'Cause it's not MEAT!"

So I did look. And he was right. And I've yet to eat a Domino's pizza since that time.

I doubt that it's anything but pepperoni. The pepperoni on pizza is so processed and full of preservatives that it probably would last longer and look identical to every other slice.

Anyway, what difference would it make if it tastes just like real pepperoni? Processed meat is just as bad for you and would probably make the pizza cost more than IF they were using an oil based product.

It all depends upon what you're accustomed to, I suppose. But pepperoni that looks the same even after it's been sitting at room temperature for 24 hours? Come on - even real pepperoni oxidizes. I can't think think that eating a sausage made entirely out of an edible oil product could possibly be less harmful than eating actual animal.

Well, one is probably nearly as bad as the other when it's so processed. But, true, at least the one that's actually from an animal has some of the original nature of it left.

Um, not really. pepperoni doesn't change in 24 hours. Still tastes good too.

I've heard rumors about Domino's unhealthy meat, and don't eat there. I go to Papa Johns, Pizza Hut or anyplace else I get a coupon from.

OMG!
Are you saying there is no meat in domino's peperoni pizza?

Thank you oh benevolent Zeus!
Vegetarians can now feast on delicious spicy pepperoni pizzas?! It sounds like a miracle to good to be true! I am going to try to find out if this is true or not on Domino's website!

have you ever bought pepperoni at the store? same same

if knowing about it bothers you i suggest you make an effort to remain ignorant about every restaurant/pizza chain/ fast food franchise. they all get their ingredients from the same "low bidders". MAYBE the very upscale high priced restaurants use fresh ingredients bought by the chefs every day but i still wouldnt look too too closely at them.

In my own hometown, I choose 'Mamma's Pizza' - there are only a handful of stores in the one city. And I make a point of choosing whole ingredients, not things like pepperoni, which could be just about anything.

But I'm not talking about my preferred pizzeria - I'm talking about Domino's.

If it wasn't pepperoni they couldn't call it pepperoni.
