What if you believe that JC was a "fisher of men" in the way that his contemporaries thought he was?
The alternate theory is that his decendants ended up unable to figure out how to put on a pair of pants by themselves (Dagobert) and were dethroned permenantly by a Muslim invasion. Imagine the theological explanation of that.
