Could someone please tell me the origin of the word "omelette"

I have no alterior motive, I have been discussing it and we don't know, of you do please share the knowledge.

French, after Latin "knife blade." Possible for the implement used for folding the omelette? Possibly because an omelette is thin, like a blade?

boiled
fried

all describe the method of cooking, omelette just seemed random compared to this!

Not entirely unrelated to this topic...there's a restaurant/cafe in the city where I live that sells omelettes for £5.75. £5.75! And cheese on toast for £4! Cheese on toast! For £4! Would people actually pay that much for cheese on toast? Or omelettes for that matter.

depends on which city you live in, and the quality of the omelette, if it's a greasy spoon then no, if it's a particulary nice restaurant then..........no!!
