Yukos, Russia's biggest oil company (until Putin siezed their most productive wells), is suing the Russian government for illegaly seizing their assets. They've brougt the case against Russia into a Houston court. What do they want the US to do? Declare war on Russia on their behalf if they win the trial?

I never got the idea of enforcing damages on an international level.
(wonder how long before this thread turns political)

That kind of stuff happens all the time. You can be dragged into court in any state as long as you have "minimum contacts" with that state. The people suing Yukos are probably suing in Texas because they know it will be a pain in the ass for a Russian company to defend themselves in Texas. The US legal system is insane.

No, Yukos is suing Russia in Texas. No Americans are involved in the suit except lawyers and the judge.

They'll have a hell of a time getting a sheriff to make the settlement stick. In fact, has the defendant even bothered to show?

Oh well there is no difference. Some big shot lawyer is suing Saudia Arabia for 9-11 in NY I think.

Well at least the US government can seize Saudi assets in the states to pay off the victims.
Does Russia have significant assets in the US?

Why don't they try the Internatrional Criminal Court? Or are they just out for money that they sue in Texas (a state with enough cowboy-mentality to co-operate)? Who are we kidding? Just shoot Putin and get Russia a real elected president.

Yukos is a big player in world's oil markets. Of course it wants the biggest player on it's side.
