Aight ... I gotta jump on this contest bandwagon. It'll give me something to do for a few days.

Who do you find to be the most respectable poster around these parts? You can define respect any way you like, but you can only nominate two people. You may nominate yourself out of self respect. :D

To keep this from being a popularity contest, please give reasons for your nominations.

Nominations will end at 12:00 pm CST/ 6:00 am UTC February 18th (Friday). (That should give enough time for people of various places to see the thread and nominate.

He wasn't playing in the Twenty20 match, so there was only the occasional shot of him on the sidelines. I'll have a look at cricinfo for a pic.

Theres this (http://nz.cricinfo.com/perl/picture.cgi/058218) one, but that is just the beard he grew. He cut it in a similar style to Chris Cairns in the picture I posted earlier.

Man oh man can you hold a grudge! Here I always thought Christians were supposed to forgive people.

Note for readers: A couple of months ago or so, I decided to argue for the sake of arguing in some thread somewhere (I'm sure NC here will dig it up and provide a link) in which I put out the statement that I didn't have any Christian or Republican friends and didn't think I was missing out on anything. It escalated to epic proportions and I had a jolly good time with it. Neo here can't seem to let it go, even though it is obvious to anyone who has ever spoken to me for more than two posts that not only do I have Christians in my family, but am married into a Sicilian Catholic family and my Dad was a Republican (Nixon type Republican). Neo, unfortunately, has spent all this time letting it stew around in his head while the rest of us have forgotten about it completely.

Now ... since my sleep was interrupted by a very annoying cat, I will go try to get back to sleep.

Well crapola....I think my nommies are already up there, so I will take this time to say a few nice things about some of the people I respect on here and why.....


In no particular order:

Eutrusca: because he's lived a long life and has probably seen a little bit of everything. He has strong family values, very positive attitude, he's kind and offers positive suggestions to people. I'd be proud to be his real daughter instead of his e-daughter.

Keruvalia: because hes intelligent, has strong family values and possesses a wonderful sense of humor. He can find humor in almost anything, and thats pretty important in this crazy world we live in today.

Grave n Idle: because he's probably the most intelligent person I've ever spoken to. He is knowledgeable on so many subjects, a true gentleman....still has those chivalristic(if thats even a word) qualities that you dont find too often anymore in men. He's fair and accepts people for who they are...no matter how weird you might be. And he's a talented poet....keep your eye out....he will be published one day.

Upward Thrust: one of the nicest people ever. Can put a smile on anyones face in 2 seconds flat. He's also a gentleman. He's ready to help anyone in need, with selfless, swift action.

Bottle: for her debating skills and objectivity. She has an opinion and isnt afraid to state it. No backing down from what she believes in. She looks adversity in the face and laughs at it. She makes it work to her advantage.

Aerou: because she hasnt let her physical beauty ruin the beauty within. Not only is she visually stunning, she's very nice and down to earth. Whoever snatches her up as a girlfried/wife......is one lucky guy.

Willamena: because he/she(i cant even remember the gender-wtf?) because although we differ in our views on certain topics, he doesnt riducule me or think I'm a nutjob. He offers a peacful approach to situations that I would rather wage personal war on. Lots of self control.

Cog- cause if you have a difference in opinion with him, he can still treat you with respect and maintain a professional manner.

Lasc: because he's genuine. You can tell even through the internet waves that he's an upstanding guy. I think he is very polite and respectful to others. He insists on making someone smile if theyve had a bad day. Again, whoever snatches him up....is one lucky lady.

Eichen: intelligent, witty, doesnt back down from what he believes in.

Lunatic Golfballs: (yes i know its goof not golf) have I mentioned how important a sense of humor is? He's so clever, funny and nice to everyone. I would like to spend a day with him and Keruvalia just so I could laugh my ass off and possibly end up wetting myself.

I nominate Zooke. She personifies the word "lady" in all that she says and does. She is always fair and objective and shows a lot of compassion for others. She is always one of the first to offer encouragement and praise. She also has a self-deprecating sense of humor and optimistic outlook. I love Zooke. :fluffle:

I also second or third or fourth the nomination on Eutrusca. He takes a long life, well lived, and gives good advice based on that.

I don't find him to be particularly bigoted. At least not bigoted against anyone. I guess one could argue he's prejudiced in favor of Islam, but that's his religion. What would you expect?

sorry daddio :( .....i think my 2 were already nominated so i just thought i'd spout some love around. i will narrow it down though to two :)

This is going to be extremely hard, and I shudder to think that I have to narrow this down to but two nominations. However, since those are the rules, I will.

My first nomination goes to Aerou - not a surprise to many I'm sure. I'm not going to get into specifics - but I will say that she has instilled in me a lost sense of being. Where once there was void, she helped me shed light - and for that there aren't enough words to thank her. She has shown through and through what it means to be kind, understanding and completely selfless. I respect that she never posts without thinking or losing her cool and that her posts always maintain a sense of civility and honesty sometimes not found here.

My second nomination goes to Peech - one of the few truly nice people I have had the pleasure of knowing. She is always there when someone need a little hug or a big fluffle, a caring kind hearted person if ever there was one. She avoids making judgements on people, and has an uncanny ability to see through the thinly veiled visages that are sometimes used here on the forum. I have never seen her turn away someone who needed help, or back down when she is need for back up. This Peech is a peach to be sure - as sweet as they come.

There are many others Id like to include, there are indeed so many people that I respect here. So for the rest of you (you know who you are! Lets not be modest!) I pass out a heaping armload of :fluffle:'s!

I had thought about doing a guys thread and prodding someone else to do a girls thread, but decided to make it gender neutral because, frankly, there's more than two genders and I didn't want anyone to feel left out or alienated. *shrug*

That was because I was involved in the guys one, and we all know just how amazingly awesome I am.

Although by that logic one could argue that the "sexy" "pretty" "nicest" threads have no more credibility, I mean you may like a blonde, or brunette, or a red head, all a bias point of view. You may think nice means one of a thousand things.

I don't think this contest will be any more bias or bogus than the others. I think it's more just to gage to see what the majority of people who bother to vote think. It's like a poll. Doesn't mean it's true, just means it's what people think/believe.

I also do think on the most part it's just in fun, so what harm really. I just know I take them too seriously and should stay far away from them as a contestant. (I don't get out much) ...lol damn kids..lol :D

45 names on the list so far and 1.5 hours left for nominations.

I will determine the pairings by a dice rolling program. For example, I will start with a 45 sided dice (if that's the final number) and roll. That name will be removed from the list and a 44 sided dice will be rolled to determine their pair.

If there is an odd number of contestants, then the last remaining name will get a Bye for the round.

Every round will be done this way. There will be no tree. I don't want there to be a way to predict who any contestant will be up against in the next round. Each round is elimination.

I realise that this could pave the way for the same person to somehow get a Bye several times in a row, but that's the nature of randomness.

Some rules:

1] One vote per customer. If you use a puppet to vote, the Mods will catch it and none of your votes will be counted.
2] You must vote publicly, in the round's thread. TG or email votes will not be counted. If that makes you uncomfortable, do not vote.
3] If you feel you are going to take any of this personally, let me know now and I will remove you from the competition.

I am also open to suggestions at this point. However, once voting begins, that's how it's going to be. I won't change the game mid-stream.
