How much does reliance on your automobile to get you around affect your health?
(poll coming)
I don't drive. It forces me to walk or bike. Consequently, I eat more, because I convince myself I need the extra 'fuel'. I'll be a fat bastard(ess) some day because of it. I need a car. Then I'll stay thin:)

Yay for non-driving!
I never even learned to drive (and I'm a fat bastard-ess ;) ).

Yeah, I know it's pathetic. I'm working on it. Who knew I was going to have to drive kids around some day...

Driving is good. It gives you more range, but for god's sake: If it's less than 5 miles away, take the friggin' bike

I'm not terribly critical of people, but when I see someone hop in their car to drive to the corner convenience store, I have to shake my head.

My husband came from a country where they couldn't afford a car, or a taxi, so they walked everywhere. Great, he was used to it. Then he came here, bought a car, and drove to our supermarket AT THE END OF THE BLOCK. He couldn't see why this bothered me, "Well, there are all the groceries to carry back, why NOT drive" he said. I was embarrased. I walked, he drove, we met, shopped, I walked home, he drove.
The other thing that drives me nuts is when people drive around a parking lot for many minutes trying to find the closest spot. JUST PARK AND WALK! Sheesh.

Would it make you feel better that my mom didn't get her license until she was 34? She was going back to work and needed to be able to drive into town from the farm.
