Have You Ever Taken More Silverware Than You Needed?

Andaluciae

Ok, I'll have a poll up in a moment.

Have you ever taken more silverware than you needed at a restaraunt, or espescially a school (college, high school, whereever) or workplace cafeteria. Espescially disposable silverware, like plastic stuff. Have you carted this stuff home and stockpiled it? I Want to know!

I have decided that, in lieu of washing dishes, I'm just going to sneak them out of the caf, use them, and return them for them to wash.

By the way, this poll does not have viewable results, just if you were concerned about tarnishing an image or something. I just want to see a bit of data.

Nope, but i have taken home a nifty beerglass that is worth more than the station money i payed for it. Otherwise i have enough cutlery.

I should probably have said any and all stuff that you don't directly pay for.

Sometimes I take ketchup and mustard packets, and especially those little straws. But I have never taken more silverware than needed.

I furnished the kitchen of my first apartment with misappropriated meal hall flatware and dishes. To be precise:

Bowls, plates, coffee cups, saucers, knives, soup spoons, tea spoons, forks, and water glasses for four. Plus one of those big cereal dispensers with the twist knob that measures a single serving per turn. Never really used it though. It was more of a trophy.

I should have included that as well, so for all those concerned, all the non-direct paid for things will count as silverware.

In a slightly more horrific moment, I was at the bar of a well-known Boston hotel, drinking some beers and watching a Sox-Yankees playoff telecast with a buddy from college. My buddy says, you know, my old man loves this hotel. I think I'm going to swipe a pint glass for him. And down in the bag it goes. A minute later, the bill arrives, unrequested, and it tallies $35 for two beers. The guy sitting next to us, turns out, is the concierge who, having gotten off duty, decided to stop off and watch the game in his street clothes.

Crapzors.

On one occasion I was in a nightclub here in Sydney, I saw the DJ getting fired for a similar act! I couldn't really believe it. Apparently, he had been stocking bottles of all sorts of drinks that he hadn't paid for (although I'm sure some of them were supposedly "free" anyway). He was virtually able to walk over to the bar, take a water/coke (something to that effect, it may have been something stronger though ;)) and walk back. He must of done this 20 or 30 times in the night! At which point, one of the staff had noticed his frequenting of the bar and put an end to that... and his job for the night. Yikes.

Wow, there's exactly 25 votes for each one. I have definetly done this. The most recent time is when my friends and I had to act out a scene in a resturant for our Spanish class and we needed props, so we took plastic sliverware, straws, napkins and paper cups and dishes from the cafeteria. Everything is free except the cups and the cardboard thing they give you the food in. Those we just, ummm... found. Yes, that's it.

I've stolen stuff when I'm over at my friend Andrew's house. Mainly little stuff, but I go there a lot so it adds up to a lot. I've taken books, silverware, glasses, food, etc. He probably does it to me too when he's here...

Also, if you're short on glasses but don't want to steal, start savin' up those jelly jars. It works great!

I'll take the occasional extra plasticware if I'm lazy and I know half the dishes in the house are presently in the sink, but I RAID sauce packet buckets at fast food restaurants. Probably why none of them have them out around here anymore and you have to ask at the counter... and they've usually a price tag attached.

This thread is great. I'll come out of the closet now:
I've taken home so much plasticware and ketchup, mustard, soy sauce, etc., that my kitchen used to look covered in every fast food resteraunt's branding.
Napkins too, of course. I'd ask my friends to bring me some stuff when they went.
What's a bachelor supposed to do? Actually remember to buy this shit?
No way. I bet you almost 100% of the people who answered yes were single men. I don't know of any women I've lived with who were cool with this.
They actually want to pay for ketchup and napkins!
I have decided that, in lieu of washing dishes, I'm just going to sneak them out of the caf, use them, and return them for them to wash.

Anyway, enough with the pedantry. Yeah i have, i have a fork from my dining hall (catered accomodation at uni) because i fix up the occational pot noodle and never thought to bring one from home.
I also have a big metal jug from off the tables so i dont have to get up from my desk to get a glass of water. And the sink is only 2 meters away. Laziness rocks!

I have seen plates being stolen, and a friend stole a fork, hammered it down, and used it as a quadrent(think trident)for the D&D group the two of us were in. I used to stockpile mustard packets from the school cafeteria my Freshman year. I would always get a hamburger (no cheese :D), and almost always forget mustard. Whenever I remembered to grab mustard, I grabbed a handfull and took them up to my locker. Later on, I lost taste in the hamburgers, and stopped getting them. My mustard hoard was left in my locker until I cleaned them out earlier this year (my Junior year). At least I think it was this year. The mustard inside the packets seemed to be going bad. It wasn't as viscous as it should've been, and it had separated into this solidish yellow goo and a yellowish watery substance.

This thread has given me an idea. I've been planning on driving around the state (Oregon), explore all the different cities and towns, etc., after I get out of school. I think maybe I'll take stuff from motels, restaurants, and other places I visit. You know, as souviniers. :p

I think stealing from places that you work is mandatory, (they'd probably sack you if you didn't) and as I've always worked in crappy catering outlets, my answer is a resounding yes.
