I'd advise the bicycle, guitars aren't very fast!!!

That's a shame. Bus service is built into everyone's bursar bill. It's only $35, which is great for those of us off campus who have to ride it every day. Not so great for the people who walk all the time.

i would prefer to walk but it's too far. iwalked to school evry day for14 years (thats primary and secondary, i wasn't terminally held back) but now it's a 45 minute to1 hour bus journey to town and then a ten minute walk to the college itself.

Ummm. 1 hour on the bus, so maybe 6 or 7 walking (I may be way off). This just sounds like an excuse to me. Lazy I call it.

Could you hire a bike until you can afford to buy one or would that be more expensive than getting the bus?

traffics pretty bad but not THAT bad, i've never tried it so i don't know how long it would take but probly 2-3 hrs. as it is i have to leave at 7;30 to catch the express bus, ther's no way i'd be in time with a normal bus, i've tried it.

With 500 Euros you could go to Japan and buy a good used car! However shipping it back over is one problem. However, I would not suggest spending that much money on public transpo. You should consider getting your own vehicle. Maybe its different over across the "pond" in the US everyone has car, even bums have a car (anyone catch that episode of Seinfeld when Jerry gives the bum the B.O. car?) But anyway, Depending on how far away your collage is you might want to consider alternate means of communication.

How much are bikes there ? And how good do they need to be ? Flat terrain, or hills ?
A simple second hand flatterrain bike should cost you 20 euro's at most..

I have to confess that I generally drive to work (although it is 70km!). However, fairly often I do get the train (Uppsala-Stockholm) and it's almost always very reliable.

I found a brand new, full-size Huffy Red Baron bicycle for 29.99 USD. Of course, I had to peel off all the stickers so that no one would know I was tooling around on a Huffy Red Baron.

This made matters complicated when the fine piece of bike was stolen off my porch and I had to report the theft of an anonymous red bicycle to the state troopers. When I said there weren't any identifying features, the trooper on the phone said, "I bet the VIN was filed off too." When he asked what the value of the bike was, I said, "Honestly, priceless. Where am I going to find another Red Baron for less than 30 bucks?" Then the trooper asked me to hold. He had a report of a red bike being found in a ditch a few miles away and he wanted to check it out. But he didn't put me on hold, he just put the phone down on the desk and I could hear the whole frikkin station cracking up. When he came back, he said it wasn't the bike, but not to worry, he'd "put all the boys on it." When I asked him if he just quoted The Big Lebowski at me, the officer assured me he did not and told me to have a good evening.

Ever since the Government privatised public transport its been bollocks. it costs me £1.50 for a two mile journey, so i don't bother with the bus. if any of you ever visit Bristol in the UK, NEVER use the buses. trains are fine, though.
