Does this irritate anyone else, or am I just odd?

See, yesterday was valentines day. I curled up with my girlfirend to watch her *favorte* movie. Moulin Rouge.

The song Elephant Love ruined the move for me. Let me explain.

Ewan McGregor sings "In the name of love, one night in the name of love."

The lyrics to the U2 song are:

"Sunday morning, April 4, a shot rings out in the Memphis sky. Free at last, they took your life, but they could not take your pride. In the name of love, one more in the name of love."

That irked me. I was thinking about MLK getting shot for the rest of the song.

I think that would be just about as innapropriate as playing "Sunday Bloody Sunday" for the superbowl. Granted, I enjoy the superbowl, but a song about the R.U.C. chasing unarmed Catholic teenagers into back alleys and murdering them doesn't quite fit with football.

Am I just weird or does anyone else get irked at this kind of thing?

Yes you are weird, and yes I too get irked at such things. Its the non-weird majority that scare me. They don't seem to be offended by taking something solemn and corrupting it for cheap entertainment value.

Dude, it's a film set in a bawdyhouse in 19th century france. MLK hadn't even been born, let alone killed. The modified the song a little so it actually fitted with the film. I think maybe you're just bing a little over-sensitive.

Thank god. As long as there's a few other people who don't like messages changing. I thought it was pretty hilarious that they broke into Kurt Cobains "Smells Like Teen Spirit" at one point during the movie. KC was rolling over in his grave when it came out.

But it's about MLK... and the lyrics that came before that one are about him getting shot. AND it's one of my favorite songs. I think if they'd dropped it and went with maybe another U2 song that was really about amourous love it'd have been better. I just started thinking about that. Oh, another thing. Whenever you see "Made In Thailand" Do you add on the rest of the phrase?

Like "Made in Thailand by a grandmother working for $.05 an hour while her grandaughter is whoring herself out on the street."
