The Religions of NS Players

Okay, so I want to get an idea of the religious backgrounds of NS players. Please choose what you feel best fits you. If you grew up catholic but don't practice, please choose the "does not practice" option, so forth and so on. Enjoy. Let's make this poll big so we can get a representative idea of who plays NS!

I was baptised a Catholic, but i haven't practised it at all in my life. I am an agnostic with Buddhist leanings.

Eep, sorry for excluding Judiasm! It wasn't intential. More of a subconcious thing, cuz believe it or not I know more Native American spiritualists than jews...my apologies!

I am agnostic, but the few times that I have practiced religion of personal choice, it has been of a pagan bent.

Atheism is not a religion.

I've heard the point argued back and forth...and if you want to get down to it, I think "don't care" is even less of a religion. However, I'm aware that a good number of atheists play nationstates and I felt having a pole on religious leanings without including them would be someone inaccurate.

I'm a Christiam, except when the lights are off and I lay in bad unable to sleep fearing that when I die there will be nothing. No existance, no God, no justice, no happy reunions. Just nothing.

Hence why the poll option should have been "I have no religion" or "No religion".

I tend to be agnostic, which in itself isn't a religion. Agnosticism is becoming almost as cliche as Liberterianism around this forum though.

Bu(d)dhist is spelled with 2 "d"s. I'd say I am half jew and half elf, but that might be a bit much.

As long as atheism is understood as stating, I don't have a religion, I figure the poll can be interpretted fairly.

Really? It seemed to me as though that trend were on its way out, and the new one was atheism.

The thing is, Atheism is just a lack of belief in a God or Gods. You could have an Atheist religion, just like you could be a theist and not be part of a religion. I guess as Max Barry said, common usage rules. Atheism is now having no religion.

There was an agnostics unite thread going around for a while. They seemed to want to welcome me with open arms.

Heh heh, so we've established I can't spell to save my life and that atheism has taken on new meaning through common usage...on the upside...the poll is taking off fairly well.

I resent agnosticism being lumped in with "don't care"-ism.

It is my belief that the existence of a God is fundamentally unknowable, at least as long as we are alive. It's also my belief that given the immense size of the universe, if there is a God S/He probably doesn't care too much about our smidgen of a planet.

So I reject the existence of an active, doing-stuff God. However, I believe that whether there is a more distant, deistic God is unknowable. So yeah, you can call me an empiricist.

And of course I also categorically reject the notion of forcing one's beliefs on others. So feel free to disagree with me. :)

I resent agnosticism being lumped in with "don't care"-ism.
I also resent being lumped with the apathetic and non-practising. Just because I'm not sure what type of a god/gods there is/are (or whether such beings exist) doesn't mean I have to be in the same box as people who don't care about religion and those who have a religion, but don't practise.

Until a higher being personally appears to me and says "Hi, Hel, I'm ___" then I'm going to stick to good old agnosticism.

After all, I've always had trouble choosing between ice-cream flavours as well.

Agnostic(Atheist/Universal Unitarian Deist-Pantheist)

I don't believe in god.

If god (G-d,God,Goddess, Allah etc.) does exist, I see it more as being the universe itself, creator and created as one, inseperable, but inactive in day to day managment of the universe. I.E. no miracles or 'supernature'. All religions idealizations of god are reflections of this truth and are therefore equal.

I am willing to admit that either of the above may be wrong, and that I am not and cannot ever be sure.

Can't help but notice that half the Christian church has been left out (Orthodox), not to mention Sikhism and Daoism. Also, if you're going to split the Christian church as you have, you really ought to do the same for Islam (Sunni, Shi'ite, Sufi, etc) and others.

Agnostic, by the way.

I put other, because I'm a little of everything. I do not believe there is a higher power, but I'm not going to say that I know there isn't, because no one does. I believe that herbs and animals and people all have power within their soul, but I don't go to pagan meetings or anything like that. I think the basic philosophies of Buhddism (sp?) are fantastic, but I don't worship him. I also love some of the Native American ideas, such as thanking the animal you kill and using every peice of it you can. I think some of basic religious laws such as "be kind to your neighbor" are good ones, even if many religious people don't follow through with them.

My thing is, I'd rather live my life in peace on the off chance I might to to hell and not live it in fear on the off-chance I might go to heaven.

Was christened and confirmed a member of the Church of Sweden (Lutheran, protestant).

Don't attend church (maybe once in a blue moon, eg at Christmas)... however I do believe something is out there that we don't understand (quite possibly God)... but don't know what for sure.

There ought to be a "religion survey" sticky, considering how often this is asked.

There ought to be a "religion survey" sticky, considering how often this is asked.

Judging by similar attempts in other forums, such a sticky would just be ignored by most, and the mods would end up doing even more work as they merged, closed and deleted all the threads that are created... and that's in forums with substancially fewer members, yet ironically, substancially more moderators, than this one.
