London, Paris, Madrid, New York or Moscow?

New York. Could turn too political, also the Americans had the winter olympics last time

Moscow. Russian infrastructure is too poor to support it (and to all those who think London's is poor, Moscow is far worse belive me)

So its down rearly to the three European entrents. I personally believe it will come down to a dead heat between London and Madrid. Paris recently had a significent set back with their swiming pool and London will be ready before them. The only significent problems London is having is public confidence and transport. And I think transport will be sorted by then.

New York........I see nothing interesting there.

But with London, its a cultural centre. You got the buckingham palace, tower of london and other medieval treats.

Same with Paris. You got the notre dam place, the eiffel tower, champ elysees (sp.) and so forth.

New York? Loads of skyscrapers, a very very big park and a bridge.

New York, world financial & media capital. Largest city in US. Most diverse city in the US. One of the few cities in the US where the subways DON'T stop. Less smog than many other cities in the US and world (surprisingly). 8 million people. Definition a sense of honor to the city therein the Olympics would be playing on that. It is, regardless of what, an honor to host the Olympics. We'll eat that right up!

Looks like someone has an axe to grind...But since you ask:

The oldest building in New York is The Wyckoff House Museum, 5816 Clarendon Road in Brooklyn, NY. The earliest portion of this house was erected by Pieter Claesen around 1652. (courtesy The New York historical society link (http://www.nyhistory.org/library/nyhsqa.html#oldestbldg))

And, according to UNESCO http://fp.thesalmons.org/lynn/world.heritage.html, The Statue of Liberty is a World Heritage Site.

Seriously the North American continent was not settled until recently when you compare our history to that of Europe. Get over yourself.

If having "World Heritage Sites" makes it such a great place then by all means host all of the Olympics you want. Not that the location matters, as we'll continue to dominate the medals.

We don't have buildings as old because we didn't start building until much later. What we do get is living history, a country built from scratch from pieces of the rest of the world. It's different, not better or worse, it's the character of this place. The east coast is riddled with that history. Fuck I hate that I have to go with Johnny on this, but get over yourselves, really. It doesn't take anything away from the signifigance of your cities to acknowledge that there is culture and history in other cities. Don't let your irratation at American policies turn you into an idiot.

I'm not a flag waver, I'm not even someone who's sure he wants to stay in the United States or remain a citizen, but become a raging irrational jackass in the opposite direction, I haven't really gone anywhere.

Having said that-we've had more than enough Olympics. L.A., Atlanta, Salt Lake City. Man, let some other countries have a turn....

I like the idea of Moscow. We had Atlanta where we could make up for the 84 Olympics and have Russia over, now the can have one where we come over, make up for the one we skipped (80?). It'd be good for Russia too, if they pulled it off. Good P.R. for the nation, etc. My hope is for Moscow. That'd be great.

I've lived in both New York and Moscow, and I would definitely rule out both cities. In Moscow, the various terrorist and money laundering groups would go beyond wild. In New York, the panicking and security problems would be too high, and the tourists would get killed by taxi cab drivers. Also, New York really does have fewer opportunities for long term touristing than those European cities. Visitors could spend maybe a week and already visit every major tourist attraction, granted that it wasn't closed down due to security, and that's with shopping. After that, another week wandering through museams, also with shopping. And anyway, to get the most out of New York, you need to put down roots.

London has hosted the games twice before, but both times it was as a last minute stand-in. Well done to London for rising to the challenge. However this is the first ocasion that London has bid and been in with a reasonable chance of being picked. London: Very Little support, already hosted two olympics.

Madrid, Has never hosted, olympic games, infrastructures is almost ready but has hotel problems.

I bet for a Madrid-Paris close race

Paris I think. Paris has all of the infrastructure in transport, and has proven with the World Cup in 1998 it can host major events.

Madrid prob has all the infrastructure etc, but Barcelona had the summer-OGs in 1992. (And in my opinion, Barcelona is a far nicer town anyway...)

London probably would be good, but for its public not being so very supportive, plus its public transport infrastructure is horrible.

New York and Moscow even more are outsiders.

The last time Moscow hosted was in the 80's but it was boycotted due to the invasion of Afghanistan. As For New York well....Living in the City I hear alot of input on the bid. Many could really care less and arent really supportive.
