It makes me so mad!

I was competing in a sports event over the weekend, and i was given a yellow card/warning for having incorrect equipment. Thats quite understandable as the stuff i had with me wasn't exactly perfect, but the sport club that I'm in is a student one, and we can't afford better equipment!

The ref knew all this, and still carded me  on a small technicality that no-one else gave a damn about, and he was horribly rude too :headbang:  :headbang:

I'm extremely annoyed and want to take it out on someone/something but I'm at work!!
HELP!

You have my sympathy. I know exactly what's that like to come up against a petty official intent of abusing what little power they have. When I was rowing for a club in NZ a similar thing happened. We were a poor club that had been closed for years and only just started up again. Our 'newest' skiff was over 20 years old. But as it costs $50000+NZ ($30000US, 20000Pommie pounds) to buy a new one we couldn't afford it.
Didn't worry us as we were in just for the fun of it.
Anyway one regatta we went to, they weren't going to let us race because we had different coloured shirts on. And when I say different colours, I mean different shades of blue (our club's colours). Luckily we found a shop nearby and were able to quickly buy 8 singlets all the same colour. But I thought it was just plain pathetic and bloody petty of them. Surely they meant to be encouraging ppl into their bloody sport not turning them off it.
So can't help you, but can sympathise.

I'm a handbal ref and it says in the rules that equipment and clothing should be in proper order. I guess other sport have it too.

hah! he was the only one who cared, cos it wasn't a big comp., only comparable to a league match - and i wouldn't have minded so much wxcept he was really rude and gave out to me and totally threw me off form too.... i have to stop ranting... :gundge:

I don't care too much for that rule. There are actual rules of how big the number on the shirt must be. That's just plain silly.

Once red carded for wearing an underarm guard that was too old (I was fencing). In fencing, that's a penalty point. I lost the bout 5-4. :(

The kicker? The ref never asked to see the guard. He just automatically gave me a red card on the word of his friend, who saw me suiting up in the locker room!!

I forgot in my first post to mention that after the race the officials were going to disqualify us because one of our team was wearing sunglasses! Apparently everyone has to be wearing exactly the same - so either no-one does or everyone does. We managed to argue that it was his prescription glasses, so they let us off with a warning.

My theory is that minor sports officials are bitter middle-aged men who were always the last one picked for teams during sports day and this is their way for getting back at everyone better than them.
They've spent their lives being ignored and passed over by others and this is the only wee bit of power they have in their entire lives and so take full advantage of it to compensate for the rest of their sad, shallow lives.
Oh, and they're probably impotent and sexually-repressed. Possibly 43 yr old virgins.

Hope there's no sports officials reading this! ;)

I totally agree with you they are the most annoying thing to do with sport but hey we have to appriciate them or they can just walk off and leave us with out a game to play. I have learnt this while playing junior club rugby(one of the other team swore at the ref because he gave a decision against them and the ref threatened to walk off!)

I wouldnt have been to sorry if he walked off though because we were losing heavliy and only 20 minutes had gone! I could even have said i would have been quite happy because we would have got the points in the league. hehe
